En el Archivo Histórico de Girona se conserva un conjunto de documentos de un valor excepcional. Se trata de un gran número de documentos hebreos que todavía hoy se encuentran medio escondidos en el interior de las cubiertas de los libros notariales de los siglos xiv y xv. Son fragmentos de documentos, escritos en hebreo, que fueron abandonados por los judíos de Girona a raíz de su expulsión en 1492 y que posteriormente fueron reutilizados por los encuadernadores para rellenar las cubiertas de los libros notariales de los siglos XIV y XV con el fin de dar mayor consistencia y flexibilidad a los libros.
Las pocas fuentes documentales existentes para el conocimiento de la vida de la comunidad judía hacen de estos documentos un auténtico tesoro para los estudiosos de la historia de los judíos y su lengua.
