CAF Grants Temporal Approval to Independence Stadium

Ministry of Youth & Sports is pleased to inform the public that, following the inspection of the Independence Stadium held on Wednesday, 9th April 2025, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has granted temporary approval for the facility. This temporary approval allows the Football Federation (GFF) to host two upcoming matches on home ground: the CHAN 2024 Qualifiers (2nd stage) between The Gambia and Algeria, and the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers (1st round) between The Gambia and Côte d'Ivoire.

In a letter dated 11th April 2025 to the Gambia Football Federation (GFF), CAF acknowledged the significant improvements made to the stadium’s pitch and granted temporal approval for two upcoming matches. CAF emphasised the need for pitch equipment to meet the full requirements for a permanent certification.

The Ministry, and by extension the Government, assures the public of its commitment to continue the ongoing procurement of the necessary equipment for the proper maintenance and upkeep of the pitch, paving the way for final approval.

Subject: Urgent: Immediate Action Required on Ebrima Ceesay Murder Case and Re-Arrest of Ebou Secka and His Accomplices

Dear Inspector General of Police,

I am writing to express deep concern and mounting frustration regarding the unresolved murder of Ebrima Ceesay and the subsequent events that have further undermined public trust in the Gambia Police Force. The continued freedom of Ebou Secka, along with those responsible for facilitating his escape, is unacceptable and jeopardizes the integrity of our justice system.

The delay in taking decisive action not only insults the memory of Ebrima Ceesay but also sends a dangerous message that criminal behavior, especially in cases involving serious breaches of public trust, can be tolerated. It is imperative that the police force takes immediate and transparent measures to:
1. Re-arrest Ebou Secka without any further delay.
2. Identify, locate, and apprehend all individuals responsible for his escape.
3. Launch a thorough and impartial investigation into the murder of Ebrima Ceesay, ensuring that all evidence is examined and that those responsible for this heinous act are held accountable.
4. Provide regular and transparent updates to the public on the progress of these investigations to restore faith in our law enforcement institutions.

The people of The Gambia are watching closely, and our collective patience is wearing thin. We demand swift action and accountability. Justice delayed is justice denied, and the continuing inaction only deepens the wounds inflicted upon the Family, community and the nation.

I urge you to treat this matter with the utmost urgency and to act decisively to ensure that no one is above the law.

Sincerely,
Buba Ceesay
Family Member

Nyang Njie's reaction to parliament's vote barring Diasporan Gambians from voting:

An election that excludes the diaspora will be a betrayal of trust and ingratitude. The diaspora bankrolled the change we witness today. Shame on this Government for being ungrateful. I stand with the DIASPORA

No without the diaspora. 4 out 10 families eat daily thanks to the diaspora.
6 out 10 homes built belong to the diaspora.
Remittance as a percentage of GDP high thanks to the diaspora . If their money is good and needed for the economy then their vote is also important and needed. Show Gratitude to the bread basket of the nation by entrenching their franchise.
