Today is the — a day that means many things to many people. I am deeply patriotic and grateful for the freedoms we enjoy, but I won’t be posting traditional red, white, and blue photos today.

Instead, I’m honoring this day through a different lens — by sharing a song that holds deep personal meaning for me: “ ” 💜🎼 by . This song tells a powerful story about breaking free from domestic abuse, at any cost. I saw my mother, aunts, cousins and friends live through it. I’ve lived through it myself [NO LONGER CRIPPLED BY SHAME TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT PART OF MY LIFE]. And while it may not be the typical way to mark this holiday, for me, this song is about finding the strength to reclaim your voice, your safety, and your freedom — in EVERY sense of the word.

So today, I’m celebrating that kind of independence. For survivors. For the brave. For those still finding their way out. 🇺🇸💔➡️❤️‍🩹➡️💪🏼 ⛓️‍💥
