Loretta Lynn Roberts was murdered in 2006 in Austin, Texas. The Austin Police Department responded on July 24, 2006 at 10:50 AM to the 100 block of Bastrop Highway southbound after hearing of a bad odor coming from a backyard and discovered a deceased body. The woman was identified as Loretta Lynn Roberts, 37 years of age. The Travis County Medical Examiner ruled Robert's death a homicide.

Her case is cold, and no one has been prosecuted for her murder. While her death was ruled a homicide, investigators speculate that her death may have been accidental.

On the Austin Police Department's website, her victimology is described as "The victim was a transient, known drug user and pr******te who mostly frequented the Rundberg Ln/IH 35 area. Loretta Roberts was survived by two daughters, Miranda Pastor and Tamara Petronis. The victim was from Lee, Florida."

Loretta was more than a transient and drug user, she was a mom and someone's daughter. While transient and drug user might be generic terms to characterize her lifestyle at the time of her murder, it does not describe her as a human being. Loretta was a woman who had children, she had hopes and dreams, and she deserved to live a life of peace. Ultimately she did not deserve this ending. We need to remember that, and that's my goal of this project.

Our police departments, local, state and federal agencies need our help to solve these crimes. If you have any information that could help Loretta Lynn Roberts and her family find justice and get answers to these unanswered questions please contact the Austin Police Department Homicide Cold Case Unit at (512) 472-8477. The Homicide Cold Case Unit can also be contacted by email here:

More information about her case can be found on the Austin Police Department website here:

https://www.austintexas.gov/article/2006-homicide-cold-case-loretta-lynn-rober

Many thanks to the Austin Police Department for keeping her case alive, and posting this on their website. Often our police departments are overloaded, and lack the resources, time, and funding to solve these crimes. Let's respect our police and other agencies who work tirelessly for justice.

Rest In Peace, Loretta Lynn Roberts.

The horrors of this crime continue with the 30th anniversary approaching in December. The crime and punishment is inflicted yet again as loved ones are denied answers due to federal statues that protect anonymous donors.

Hopefully, these families will find some sembalnce of peace if headway can be made with advancements in DNA testing.

Great collaboration between Riverside County and our Texas Rangers, Danny Briley. It's incredible that cold cases can be solved creatively using DNA in CODIS, DNA obtained from suspects, and direct-to-consumer DNA in databases like Ancestry.com. Great work and hats off to these agencies.
