Midlife brings changes we expect, changing bodies, shifting relationships, and learning who we are in this season.

But losing a grandchild was never something I imagined having to survive.

Now grief is part of my midlife story too. I notice cardinals, butterflies, and dragonflies differently. I look for little reminders that love doesn’t simply disappear when someone we love is gone.

This isn’t the chapter I expected to be living.

But if grief has become part of your midlife story too, for any reason, you don’t have to pretend you’re okay here. I’m walking through it too. ❤️

Did midlife bring a loss you never saw coming?

Some days healing looks like growth.

Other days it looks like getting through the day without asking yourself to carry one more thing.

I’m learning that surviving something doesn’t mean it stops affecting you. You can understand where your patterns came from and still catch yourself reading the room. You can know you deserve rest and still feel guilty when you take it. You can be healing and grieving at the same time.

And you can have days when an old version of you shows up because she learned a long time ago how to keep you safe.

I’m not trying to rush her anymore.

I’m learning to listen to her, give her what she needed then, and remind her that we don’t have to survive every day like we used to.

So if you’re somewhere in the middle too, still healing, still unlearning, still finding your footing…

You don’t have to have it all figured out today.

You did enough.

And I’m walking through this part with you. ❤️

One of the hardest things I’m learning about grief is how quickly an ordinary moment can change.

I can be working, driving, making dinner, scrolling through my phone, or just trying to get through a normal day. Then something reminds me of Abel.

And there it is. 🌊💔

That ache in my chest. The disbelief. The longing to hear his voice, see his smile, or have one more ordinary moment with him.

I used to think grief would feel like constant sadness. I’m learning that sometimes it looks like functioning, laughing, getting things done and then suddenly being knocked over by a memory.

So if you see someone who is grieving having a good day, please don’t assume their grief is gone.

They may simply be standing between the waves.

And when the next one comes, they’re learning how to stand again. 💛

Abel’s Gigi, always.

I know what it’s like to spend years wondering, “Why am I like this?”

Why do I overthink everything?
Why do I feel things so deeply?
Why can’t I just let things go?
Why does everyone else seem to handle life better than I do?

And when you ask yourself those questions long enough, eventually they start sounding like, “Something must be wrong with me.”

But what if we’ve been asking the wrong question?

What if some of the things we criticize most about ourselves were ways we learned to cope, protect ourselves, or keep going when life felt like too much?

You don’t have to suddenly love every part of yourself today.

You don’t even have to completely believe that you’re not broken yet.

But maybe, just for today, you can stop treating yourself like something that needs to be repaired.

You’ve carried enough without carrying the blame too.

And if you’re still learning how to believe that, I’m right here learning with you. ❤️

Good morning. 🤍

Just in case you started today already thinking about everything you need to do, everything you need to fix, or everyone who needs something from you…

Here’s your reminder:

You matter, too.

Before the to-do list.
Before the expectations.
Before everything you’ll do for everyone else today.

You matter simply because you’re you.

Carry that with you today. ❤️

Being tired isn't proof that you didn't do enough. Sometimes it's proof that you've been carrying too much for too long. Let's put it down together tonight.
