In 2021, Maria Andrejczyk, a Polish javelin thrower and Olympic silver medalist, demonstrated the true spirit of compassion and selflessness. She made the bold choice to auction her silver medal to help fund life-saving heart surgery for Miłosz Małysa, an infant born with a rare heart defect.

The surgery, only available in the United States, required a significant amount of money. Maria, deeply moved by Miłosz’s story, saw an opportunity to make a difference. Her medal was auctioned and won by Żabka, a popular Polish convenience store chain. In a beautiful twist of generosity, Żabka donated the entire amount for the surgery but insisted Maria keep her medal, honoring both her achievement and her selfless act.
