The Mother Who Followed Her Son
The dusty road was unusually quiet as the Roman soldiers began leading Jesus away. A horse moved slowly along the path, while Jesus was guided behind it with a rope. The soldiers walked with serious expressions, and the crowd followed at a distance.
Jesus appeared deeply tired, yet He remained peaceful and silent. He looked toward the road ahead, knowing that a difficult journey was before Him.
Behind the soldiers stood Mary, His mother.
The moment she saw her son being taken away, tears filled her eyes. She tried to remain strong, but the sorrow in her heart was too great.
“Jesus… my son…”
Her voice trembled as she spoke.
Mary began walking after Him.
She wanted to get closer, but the soldiers kept moving forward. She followed them along the dusty road, her eyes fixed on Jesus.
Every few steps, she stopped to wipe away her tears.
The followers of Jesus stayed near her. They were saddened by what they were witnessing, and some quietly prayed as they walked.
Mary looked at Jesus again.
He seemed so far away, yet to her he was still the same son she had loved and cared for since childhood.
She remembered his gentle words, his kindness toward people, and the hope he had given to those who were suffering.
Those memories made her cry even more.
Then, suddenly, Jesus turned and looked back.
Mary froze.
For a moment, everything around her seemed to disappear.
She could only see her son.
Jesus looked at her with a calm and compassionate expression. Mary raised her trembling hand toward Him, tears running down her cheeks.
She could not reach Him, but her eyes spoke what words could not.
“I am here, my son.”
Jesus continued forward.
Mary lowered her hand and followed once again.
The wind carried dust across the road. The horse moved slowly, and the soldiers continued their journey. The crowd became quieter as everyone realized that the road ahead was leading toward a solemn and painful moment.
Mary’s steps became slower, but she refused to turn around.
She whispered prayers with every step.
“May God protect you. May God give you strength. May God stay beside you.”
Her voice was soft, almost lost beneath the sound of footsteps, but she continued praying.
One of Jesus’ followers gently walked beside Mary and tried to support her. Mary nodded through her tears but kept looking ahead.
She did not want to miss even a single moment of her son’s journey.
As the road stretched toward the distant hill, Mary realized that she could not stop what was happening. She could not change the soldiers’ orders. She could not bring Jesus home.
But she could remain near Him.
That was enough.
She continued walking behind Him, carrying her grief in silence.
The sun slowly rose higher in the sky, illuminating the dusty road and the people moving along it. Jesus walked ahead, the soldiers continued their duty, and Mary followed with tears in her eyes.
Her heart was broken, but her love remained stronger than her fear.
She kept walking until the road disappeared toward the hill.
And throughout that heartbreaking journey, one thing never changed:
A mother could not change her son’s path, but she could walk beside him with all the love in her heart.
Mary followed Jesus—not because the journey was easy, but because she loved her son and could not bear to leave him alone.
