Exploring My Music Collection: EP 8

Pulling another local Dallas artist from the shelf.
See You Next Time (2021) leans hard on storytelling, songs about regret, messy choices, and lived-in honesty.

The songwriting is the strength here. Even when things stay stripped back, the stories carry the record.

My rating: 7/10 (for the songwriting alone)

Classic in the making or just solid?

Exploring My Music Collection: EP 7

2 Live Crew’s As Nasty As They Wanna Be (1989) broke the rules before it was cool.
Shocking, banned, and still talked about.
Classic or just controversial?

Episode 6 of exploring my music collection:
Today I’m pulling from the modern ska shelf with Doom Garden EP. Tight songwriting, sharp hooks, and that perfect balance of upbeat energy with darker themes that actually stick with you. This EP proves you don’t need a full album to make a strong statement. You really should check them out at Threelinks in Dallas TX on 12/16!

Fun Fact: This band made me cry when I watched This is New Tone for the first time!

Episode 5 of exploring my music collection:
Todays review is from the Dallas local rock corner with self-titled Copious Noise LP. It’s a Dallas progressive alt rock project with a lot of ambition, but honestly this one just didn’t do it for me at all. Unironic dad rock fans will most likely love this.

My review: 1/10

Episode 3 of exploring my music collection:
Today it’s from my small but growing hiphop collection, 1986 “Funk Beat” 12-inch single from Whodini. Vintage rap track with a early groove similar to Run DMC who dominated the era. Fun fact: Whodini was one of the first hip-hop groups to use full stage production in their live shows.

My review: 8/10

Episode 3: of exploring my music collection , Silver (2023). This album makes you instantly cool. Seriously one of the best modern disco albums of recent times.

Episode 2: Sounds of Deep Ellum (VOL 2). This album has some faults (the song order is just not cohesive) but the rarity of some of these artists on vinyl make it worth it. I give it 5/10.
