He was small, blond, wearing a blue jacket and khaki pants, his hands hanging at his sides.
The woman beside him grabbed his sleeve and whispered, “No, please, get down.”
But the boy didn’t move.
The robber turned toward him.
“You deaf, kid?”
The boy looked at him calmly, but his lips were trembling just enough to show he was scared.
“You guys have to leave now,” he said. “I’m giving you a last warning.”
The robber laughed once, sharp and cruel.
Then he stepped closer with the knife.
