After the accident, everything was just... blank. No memories, no familiar faces. When I woke up, there was a man beside me who said his name was Derek – my husband. I didn't recognize him, but he seemed kind, patient, gentle... The doctors said I needed rest and routine, so I went home with him, hoping the memories would come back.
But something felt off almost immediately.
My dog, Otis completely freaked out the moment we walked through the door. He's usually calm and sweet, but he lunged at Derek like he was defending me. Derek said, "WE ALWAYS KEEP HIM IN THE BACKYARD WHEN HE GETS LIKE THIS," and tried to shove Otis outside. But... I knew in my gut that was wrong. OTIS ALWAYS LIVED INSIDE WITH ME!
The weirdness didn't stop. When I tried to call my best friend, Derek snatched the phone from my hands and told me I wasn't ready to talk to anyone yet. That night, I barely slept.
The next morning, I saw Derek near the front door, speaking in hushed tones with someone I couldn't see clearly. I crept closer and when I finally caught a bit of what he said... my blood ran cold. OH MY GOD!

My SIL Vanessa inherited this old, faded, cracked dark oak armoire from her grandma (also my husband's grandma). One day she calls me out of nowhere: "Ugh. I can't stand this hunk of junk. Makes my new house look cheap. I'm sending it to you. You pay delivery. Do whatever you want with it. I never want to see it again."
I even double-checked: "Do you mind if I paint it?"
She waves me off: "Do whatever. I'm done with it."
So I sanded it by hand. Replaced every bit of hardware. Painted it a gorgeous cream, then hand-painted flowers and butterflies. Put in close to $1,000 and countless hours. When I was done, it looked like a $5,000 boutique hotel piece.
Fast-forward to my husband's birthday. Vanessa walks in, spots it, jaw drops. Then: "Give it back. It's mine. How could you take what my grandma left me? This is an heirloom!"
I almost laughed. She'd called it junk. Made me pay to move it. Now it's "priceless"? She whined that I was selfish.
At first I wanted to answer NO. But I knew she'd pull a stunt. I knew I needed to teach her a lesson.
So I smiled and said, "Of course… you can have it back. But on one condition." ⬇️
