Impeachment is supposed to be a last resort for real crimes in office, not a press stunt against a defense secretary who is actually using the job. Pete Hegseth was put there to rebuild a force that had spent years lecturing itself and losing focus. Turning that into a floor fight over process while threats are still live is how Washington protects its own habits instead of the country.
A military that hesitates in public while enemies test every boundary is not safer. It is slower. The people who want the Pentagon back in a seminar room will always find a statute to wave. War powers debates matter. They do not require treating a results-first secretary like the problem. The problem is a town that would rather hobble the building than admit the last decade of drift failed.
Keep the secretary on the task. Rebuild readiness. Hit the targets that need hitting. Leave the theater votes to the members who never have to write the condolence letters. A country that kneecaps its own defense leadership mid-fight is not practicing constitutional hygiene. It is advertising weakness. Hegseth should stay and finish the work.
