High Court Orders West Coast Radio to Submit Sankareh Interview Audio

Reported by Kexx News

The High Court has directed West Coast Radio to hand over the audio recording of an interview conducted with government spokesperson Ebrima G. Sankareh.

This development came after Counsel Adama Sillah, representing the second accused, filed an application during Sankareh’s cross-examination. Sillah expressed concern over the accuracy of Sankareh’s responses and requested the court to obtain the interview for verification purposes.

Presiding Judge Justice Jaiteh granted the request and ordered West Coast Radio proprietor Peter Gomez to produce the materials.

The audio is expected to be used to challenge or clarify the testimony of Sankareh when cross-examination continues.

Sankareh Appears in Court Despite State’s Objection

What’s On Gambia has reported that Government Spokesperson Ebrima Sankareh appeared in court today, despite a failed attempt by the State to block his testimony.

Sources revealed that Sankareh was evasive in responding to questions during his appearance. At his next court session, he is expected to be confronted with a recording of his interview on West Coast Radio, where he claimed that Ousainou Bojang — the suspected shooter in the Sukuta-Jabang Traffic Light incident — was a member of the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) and part of Chairman Yankuba Darboe’s security team.

The matter continues to stir public interest, given its potential political ramifications.

Army Commander Warns Soldiers Against Regrettable Resignations

Banjul, The Gambia — Brigadier General Sait Njie, Commander of the Gambia National Army, has warned soldiers against hastily resigning from the military in search of greener pastures, stating that many who leave later regret their decision.

Speaking at Defence Headquarters in Banjul on Wednesday, Njie revealed that former soldiers frequently request re-enlistment, but the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) no longer allows them to return, stressing, “GAF is not a dumping ground.”

He urged serving members to carefully consider their future before resigning, as rejoining the army is no longer an option.

Meanwhile, Chief of Defence Staff Lieutenant General Mamat O Cham advised troops to maintain good conduct and integrity, reminding them of their duty to the Gambian people. He also encouraged them to join the Armed Forces Credit Union to improve financial security.

Response to Lamin Manneh’s Kerr Fatou Interview

I listened to Mr. Lamin Manneh’s interview with great interest. I respect his service and commitment to the UDP, but as a concerned and active member of the party, I believe it’s time we have an honest and constructive conversation about the future — not just the past.

Mayor Talib Bensouda is one of the UDP’s most successful elected officials in recent years. He has served with distinction, delivered results in Kanifing, and drawn praise even beyond party lines. If some members interpreted the public appreciation of his work as “early campaigning,” we should ask ourselves: since when has performance and popularity become a threat in politics? Are we not in this to build a party that attracts hope and delivers leadership?

Yes, political ambition can cause tension — that’s true in every functioning political party. But ambition itself isn’t the problem. The real issue is whether we have the maturity to manage ambition in a way that strengthens, not divides, the UDP.

We should also be honest with ourselves: H.E. Ousainou Darboe has led this party with courage and sacrifice for decades. No one can dispute his contributions. But elections are about winning power, not repeating history. The 2021 presidential election showed us clearly where we stand with the electorate. If we are serious about defeating President Barrow in 2026, we need to look at what didn’t work and have the courage to try something new — not out of disrespect for Mr. Darboe, but out of respect for the Gambian people who are desperate for change.

Mayor Talib has already publicly declared that he would not contest if Mr. Darboe decides to run. That statement alone shows his discipline and loyalty. The idea that he should be held accountable for what his supporters might say on social media feels selective and unfair. We must be careful not to create a culture where younger leaders are punished for being admired.

As we move toward 2026, the question is not who’s been around the longest, but who can win the election, unite the country, and lead us forward. For many of us — especially younger voters and first-time voters — the answer is clear: Talib represents the kind of leadership that can bridge the generational gap and challenge Barrow effectively.

Let’s learn from the past. Let’s put aside ego and nostalgia. Let’s think like a party that wants to win, not just participate. That’s the only way the UDP can finally bring real change to The Gambia.

Respectfully,
Concerned UDP Member

Saikou B. Jammeh Resigns from NPP, Citing Corruption, Insecurity, and Betrayal of Loyalists

Banjul, The Gambia – In a bold and public statement released on Saturday, Saikou B. Jammeh, the former National People’s Party (NPP) Students’ Wing Coordinator, has officially announced his resignation from both his position and the party.

Jammeh, known for his vocal advocacy and youthful mobilization within the NPP, cited a growing list of grievances that, according to him, reflect a deep rot within the party’s leadership and governance approach.

Among his chief concerns:
• The marginalization of long-standing NPP supporters.
• Rewards being given to former critics of the party, while loyalists are ignored.
• Widespread corruption and unchecked abuse of power.
• Rising insecurity and fear among citizens.
• A cost of living crisis that remains unaddressed.
• Increasing socioeconomic inequality.
• A declining sense of national pride and direction.

In a direct message, Jammeh warned that the current system is quick to discard even the most dedicated individuals, naming Kebba Madi Bojnag and Ahmad Gitteh as examples of those overlooked despite their loyalty and contributions.

“If they can neglect someone like Kebba Madi… what makes you believe they won’t do the same to you?” he questioned.

Jammeh’s resignation marks a significant crack within the NPP’s youth ranks and comes at a time when the party faces mounting criticism over governance, internal unity, and public trust.

Observers say his departure could stir further unrest among dissatisfied party members, particularly young supporters, who have increasingly voiced disillusionment with the party’s direction.

UDP Member Saikou Highlights Grassroots Loyalty Amid Internal Party Tensions

Kanifing, The Gambia – June 22, 2025

A United Democratic Party (UDP) member, Saikou, has issued a heartfelt public statement emphasizing the sacrifices and unwavering loyalty of grassroots supporters, while calling on party leaders to remain united and respectful in the face of growing internal tensions.

In a reflection shared last week, Saikou recounted a recent outreach visit to long-time UDP supporters. Though the location remains undisclosed, he said the visit involved going house-to-house with fellow party members to deliver greetings from UDP leader Ousainou Darboe and to hear supporters’ thoughts on the party’s current direction.

According to Saikou, many of the supporters live in modest conditions and lack formal education, yet continue to show deep commitment to the party’s ideals. He noted that these individuals do not expect personal gain but instead remain loyal out of genuine belief in the UDP’s vision for a better Gambia.

“One particular family told us they contributed D10,000 to support the UDP women’s event held months ago. Considering their living conditions, this was clearly a major sacrifice—but they gave anyway, because they believe,” Saikou wrote.

He directed his message to the party’s executive members, elected officials, and those considered part of the party elite, urging them to recognize and honor the dedication of ordinary citizens who have stood by the UDP since 1996.

“These are the people who have kept this movement alive,” he said. “They may not write eloquent commentaries or appear on TV, but they are the soul of this party. Don’t betray their trust.”

His remarks come at a time when internal divisions have surfaced within the UDP, sparking public debates and leadership questions. Saikou cautioned that such disputes risk alienating the party’s core supporters and undermining public trust.

“When we fight among ourselves, it’s not just the party that suffers—it is these people who are left confused and without context,” he warned. “We owe it to them to lead with respect and to show that differences in opinion don’t have to lead to division.”

He ended with a rallying call for unity and purpose, reminding colleagues that their mission is national in scope: “We have a country to build, and it’s about our people. May we all live to witness that glorious day, Inshallah.”

The statement has since sparked conversation among party members and observers alike, seen as both a plea for internal reconciliation and a reaffirmation of grassroots values.
