AT&T IS MOVING ITS GLOBAL HEADQUARTERS FROM DOWNTOWN DALLAS TO PLANO
AT&T has officially announced plans to relocate its global headquarters from Downtown Dallas to Plano over the next several years! The Fortune 500 company states that the move is part of a long-term strategy to create a more consolidated and collaborative corporate campus for employees across North Texas.
WHAT WE KNOW
AT&T has been headquartered in Downtown Dallas since 2008 and has invested roughly $100 million in its Discovery District campus, which opened in 2021. The campus features a large outdoor plaza, video screen, food hall, and public gathering space. As of 2022, nearly 6,000 employees were assigned to AT&T’s downtown offices, including the 37-story Whitacre Tower, where the company’s lease runs through 2030.
Company leadership says the Plano site allows them to consolidate administrative offices currently spread across Dallas, Plano, and Irving into one horizontal campus designed for collaboration and long-term growth.
WHAT’S STILL UNCLEAR
It’s not yet known what this means for or how much of the company’s presence will remain in Downtown Dallas long term. City leaders have said the transition will be gradual and that AT&T is expected to remain part of Dallas’ business landscape for years to come, but questions remain about the future of the downtown campus.
WHY IT MATTERS
The move raises bigger questions about Downtown Dallas, especially after years of investment aimed at revitalizing the urban core and attracting major employers. At the same time, Plano leaders say AT&T’s decision reflects the region’s continued growth and appeal as a business hub.
We’ll be watching closely as more details come out… especially around the future of the Discovery District!
