📢 Public Service Announcement | DESOTO ANIMAL CONTROL

Increased Coyote Activity – DeSoto Animal Control, in the interest of public safety, is notifying residents of increased coyote activity in the neighborhoods:

• South of Wintergreen Rd
• North of Pleasant Run Rd
• West of I-35
• East of Hampton Rd
• Regents Park Neighborhood

We have received reports of coyote encounters involving unattended pets in this area. In both incidents, no aggression toward humans was observed, and the coyotes responded appropriately to humane hazing techniques.

⚠️ Important Safety Guidelines:

• Do not approach a coyote if you see one.
• When walking your dog, keep pets on a leash no longer than 6 feet.
• Ensure all pets are attended to or secured in a coyote-proof enclosure.
• Do not leave pet food or garbage outdoors, as this can attract wildlife.
• Maintain your landscaping to reduce hiding spots and attractants.

Coyotes are generally shy and avoid human contact. However, as they adapt to urban environments in search of food, some may venture into neighborhoods and yards. These animals are a vital part of our ecosystem, and by taking simple steps, we can coexist safely and reduce the risk of negative encounters.

Our goal is to work together to enhance the safety, cleanliness, and livability of your neighborhood for all residents. We are committed to carrying out this effort fairly, respectfully, and in partnership with the community.

We invite you to learn more and share your input at our community meetings on May 21st and May 27th from 5:00pm – 6:30pm at the D.L. Hopkins Jr. Senior Center located at 206 James Collins Boulevard.
