sharing a bit about my process of getting diagnosed with ADHD! 🧠

it was honestly in some ways more difficult to obtain an adhd assessment than my autism assessment! i wish i knew about other options like .official sooner because i definitely would have used them 🥲

they have a 1-minute symptoms test on their website to discover if you could benefit from support (link is in my bio!!)

as a late-diagnosed autistic person, over-explaining became second nature. it was my attempt to prevent misunderstandings, manage perceptions, and stay “in control.” 🫠

but the reality of it is it just burned me out!
i can’t control how people interpret me, and constantly trying doesn’t make me safer, it just makes me tired.

letting go of that urge has given me back so much mental energy. not everyone will understand me, and that’s okay 🫶

seeing photos of my younger self hits differently now.

i see a girl who grew up undiagnosed autistic, navigating a world that didn’t understand her. the consequences of growing up undiagnosed are real—low self-esteem, masking, burnout, and constantly feeling different without knowing why.

i wish i could go back and tell her it wasn’t her fault. she was always enough! 🤍

one of the ways i’ve unmasked most in the last few years is with my clothing/style. i will NOT! wear anything that is uncomfortable because physical discomfort affects my ability to self regulate so much.
