The Department of Homeland Security claims that undocumented individuals who self-deport will receive financial assistance. But immigrant-rights organization Vecinos Unidos says that’s simply not true.

Advocates allege that agents at the Dallas ICE Field Office have demanded money from migrants attempting to self-deport — a practice that contradicts DHS’s public statements and raises serious concerns about coercion and exploitation.

In her latest report for DW, Sisi Encarnacion examines how Vecinos Unidos is working to protect families, counter misinformation, and confront the ongoing harms of federal immigration enforcement across North Texas.

Dixon Circle officially cemented its place in Dallas history.

On November 2nd, the community gathered at Dixon Circle Missionary Baptist Church to celebrate the installation of the neighborhood’s new street sign toppers — designed by residents themselves and proudly marked ‘Dixon Strong Forever’.

The morning kicked off with a powerful performance from the Lincoln HS Drum Line, followed by remarks from community leaders and the awarding of residents who helped raise the funds to make the toppers possible. The celebration concluded with a ribbon-cutting at Dixon Ave. and Bourquin St., honoring the legacy and unity of this historic South Dallas neighborhood.

“It means we are visibly recognized as Dixon Circle in the City of Dallas,” said Shanda Brown, Vice President of the Dixon Circle Neighborhood Association.
