We’re thrilled to announce our acquisition of Travis Womack’s powerful new manuscript, Pursuing Perfection: The Making of the Tomb of the Unknowns Ceremonial M17 🇺🇸✨
Have you ever wondered about the elite soldiers who guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier—their unwavering discipline, the mystique of their ritual, and the meaning behind every precise movement? Travis Womack, Army veteran and founder of Womack Career Coaching & Consulting, takes you behind the scenes and into the heart of that legacy.
Womack tells the story of the Tomb’s ceremonial M17 pistols—from their early concept to their symbolic design using brass and wood from the USS Olympia and marble dust from the Vietnam Unknown crypt. Engraved with “Peace, Valor and Victory,” these pistols honor the guardians who stand watch day and night. We hope this book will be a tribute to service, sacrifice, and American history, and we can’t wait to share it with you. 🇺🇸📘
Stay tuned for updates!

It's time to get this party started! From artists to puppets to fuzzy felines, the BBPG office was full of laughter as the team took turns showing off and voting for their favorite Brown Books costume. Every year Brown Books Publishing holds a Halloween costume contest where staff dress up as an author or character from one of our many titles.
Hosting the event was CEO and Publisher Milli Brown, who came dressed as her rescue Rado in honor of BBPG's newest imprint, Rado's Press! Launching in Spring 2026, Rado's Press is a nonprofit imprint whose proceeds will go directly to Operation Kindness, a leading no-kill animal shelter that is dedicated to saving the lives of dogs and cats through adoption, medical care, and compassionate sheltering.
And now to introduce our winners!
Putting the KILLER in KILLER VINTAGE by Eric Sanchez was none other than Danny, who walked away with the top prize!
Coming in at a close second were Jonathan and Brittany who came dressed as Eric Sanchez and Ollie from THE DISTRACTION MONSTER by Ryan Woodall! Closing out the final slot were Laura and Ben who represented A MAKER OF DRESSES by Violet Lemay and our upcoming children's title SOUNDS OF AMERICA by Jennifer Payne. The editorial team certainly did BBK proud!
Also in attendance and awarded Honorable Mention was Lake —Rado's successor! While he may not have won best costume, this charming canine certainly won all of our hearts!

The Brown Books team is very proud to share that our very own Senior Operations Manager, Brittany Griffiths, just presented her research at the George Washington University Ethics in Publishing Conference in Washington D.C. Her presentation, “The Rhetoric of Hybrid Publishing: Negotiating Legitimacy and Stigma in the Modern Publishing Landscape,” examined how hybrid publishing has emerged as a disruptive force in the industry:
“Ethical hybrids are transparent...they’re working to try explain to authors how the process works, what they need to do...and predominantly a lot of the ethical hybrid publishers are explaining to authors that it is really challenging to sell books...They need to be fully behind their book. If they don’t believe in their book, who else will?”
Drawing on publishing scholarship as well as her own findings through research and interviews, Brittany’s innovative and thought-provoking investigation is an important contribution to the conversation on the evolving publishing landscape.
Congratulations Brittany!

This Is Panther Country: A Memoir of Youth, Underdog Spirit, and Basketball Glory by Tom McKeown has received high praise from the Midwest Book Review, which calls it “exceptionally well written, fully engaging, and a fascinating read from cover to cover.”
In the tradition of Hoosiers, Friday Night Lights, and The Boys in the Boat, McKeown delivers a timeless underdog story of small-town grit, family ties, and the pursuit of basketball glory. Set in the mid-1970s in Babylon, Long Island, this heartfelt memoir follows both a young boy’s coming-of-age and a varsity basketball team’s pursuit of its first-ever Long Island Championship.
McKeown captures the pulse of an era when athletics helped bridge the divides of race, class, and community. With vivid storytelling, he brings to life Coach Roy Koelbel’s leadership, Glenn Vickers’ star power, and the unforgettable battles against powerhouse rival Amityville. Each page brims with the excitement, challenges, and resilience that define both sport and youth.
At once a sports chronicle and a deeply personal journey, This Is Panther Country is a celebration of teamwork, perseverance, and the enduring spirit of a community united by a game. A must-read for basketball fans, memoir lovers, and anyone who appreciates an inspiring true story of triumph against the odds.
