The Brown Books team is very proud to share that our very own Senior Operations Manager, Brittany Griffiths, just presented her research at the George Washington University Ethics in Publishing Conference in Washington D.C. Her presentation, “The Rhetoric of Hybrid Publishing: Negotiating Legitimacy and Stigma in the Modern Publishing Landscape,” examined how hybrid publishing has emerged as a disruptive force in the industry:
“Ethical hybrids are transparent...they’re working to try explain to authors how the process works, what they need to do...and predominantly a lot of the ethical hybrid publishers are explaining to authors that it is really challenging to sell books...They need to be fully behind their book. If they don’t believe in their book, who else will?”
Drawing on publishing scholarship as well as her own findings through research and interviews, Brittany’s innovative and thought-provoking investigation is an important contribution to the conversation on the evolving publishing landscape.
Congratulations Brittany!
