In DC for the week supporting and her event Move To Millions and decided to be a tourist. With how much I paid Uber to be out visiting these monuments and one of my brothers, I’m gonna need to book another event 🫣😅 LAWD I don’t miss this DC traffic. But it has been good being here again.

Not sure if I told this story before but the only reason I fell in love with video production is because my sister, who I had just met a lil over 2 years prior, gave me like 3 F’s in her video production classes I took my senior year in high school. I figured since we were growing to know each other and because she was my oldest sister, that me being in her class, she’d pass me and I not have to work. Shiiiiiiiid…ya boy was wrong 😂 But it was her making me work that helped me to discover that I LOVED this and wanted to do it once I got out of school in 2005.

Now while I didn’t immediately go into video production, because of being displaced by hurricane Rita and then joining the Navy, I did end up spinning the block and returning back to my love in 2011. Fast forward to 2023, I’m living my dreams and it’s all because my sister was a hater 👀 Let this be a message to y’all to let your haters be your motivators 🫣😂 But nahh I love you so much and am grateful for you pushing me because I legit would not be making the impact I am in video production had it not been for you.

I almost gave up on my dream of becoming a video producer.

Years ago, at my lowest, I was on the verge of eviction, I was taking cold showers because my gas had been turned off, and even my power was about to be cut off. I didn’t have enough business to maintain and I was tempted to follow the well-meaning but bad advice to get a “real job.”

But by believing in God and the gift He placed in me, I didn’t give up. And because I persisted in what I believed in, I’ve grown to the point to where I’m not only able to help take care of my family of 4, my business has expanded to the point where I’m hiring full time support so that I can continue to grow and scale.

I don’t know who this is for but, while things may look rough now, if you persist and lean heavily into God AND the thing that you’re growing is of God, then you’ll soon see brighter days. Keep going!

WHAT MAKES FOR A POWERFUL TESTIMONIAL

Aside from actually having a live event or coaching program worth talking about, your testimonials should capture the individual's personal experience and the impact the event or program had on them. Here are a few things you should consider when filming testimonials:

1️⃣ Authenticity: Testimonials should be real and honest. They should come from attendees and clients who genuinely had a good experience at your client’s event or program. If you as a videographer see certain guests not having a good time or you overhear them speaking negatively about an event or program, they are not the ones you want telling their experience about your client’s event or program.

2️⃣ Specificity: Don’t allow attendees to make general or broad statements like "It was a great event," and they just leave it at that. Ask them to be specific and tell you what was great about it? Was it the atmosphere, the people, the food, the community, the teaching, the experience? Get them to be specific and encourage them to talk.

3️⃣ Results or Impact: The best testimonials speak to the results or impact the event had on the attendee. This connects with being specific. It could be what they learned, a skill they developed, connections they made, and have them speak on what their lives will look like as a result of what they’ve learned.

4️⃣ Identifying Information: Always, and I mean always, capture a person's full name, their role or title, and what they do.

Next time you have testimonials to capture, consider these tips and I guarantee you will start to receive heartfelt responses that move the needle in your client’s business…yours too, but specifically your client.

This ain’t got nothing to do with nothing but while filming in St. Louis, I stopped by an oyster bar my last night there and met some pretty cool people. Me and one dude talked for like 3 hours at the bar before the rest of his friends came and joined us. The conversation was rich and it was a refreshing reminder that we’re all connected and share the same life experiences, no matter who you are or where you come from.

Conversations tear down walls and builds bridges. So be intentional and take a break from your phone or whatever screen you’re most locked into and start talking to people.

I’m a lil late to the party but on April 12th Sony released a firmware update for the FX3 camera and I wanted to share some key improvements.

The update adds support for a feature called Breathing Compensation, which helps to reduce the effect of breathing on footage when using lenses that change their focal length during focus pulls. This means that your footage will be more stable and smooth, even when using lenses that breathe.

The update also allows you to shoot in DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) and 24.00p recording, which is a higher quality video format. Additionally, the update adds a function that allows you to display movies compressed using an anamorphic lens with correction (de-squeeze) to the CinemaScope aspect ratio. This means that you can shoot video with a wider aspect ratio, giving your footage a more cinematic look.

Other improvements in the update include the ability to switch Slow & quick and Movie modes with a custom key, support for long file names, and improved camera stability. These changes will help you to create higher quality video footage and make it easier to use your camera.

Overall, the Sony FX3 firmware update adds new features and improves the camera's performance, making it a great option for beginner and experienced filmmakers who want to create high-quality video content.

Traveling with video gear, whether expensive or cheap, can be scary at times and often a challenge, but there's a simple solution that can put your mind at ease: hiding a tracking device in your cases. I currently use the Apple AirTags and find peace knowing where my gear is at all times. I recently traveled to Miami with a lot of gear and on the way back I realized one of my bags wasn’t on my flight with me. Because I knew where it was, I was able to take immediate action once I landed and had Delta deliver my equipment to my front door, same day.

So if you find yourself traveling with gear often, I recommend getting some sort of tracking device for your equipment so that you can easily track your gear and travel with peace of mind.
