** PEACE IN OUR TIME (BRASS BAND) ANDREW WAINWRIGHT **

Commissioned by Armonico Consort to mark the 85th anniversary of the Coventry Blitz, 'Peace in Our Time' is a profoundly moving reflection on humanity’s enduring quest for reconciliation. Originally scored for choir, orchestra, and organ, this masterful brass band transcription beautifully captures the emotional weight of John Oxenham’s evocative poetry and the timeless plea of Psalm 122.

About the Music:

The Opening: Hushed reverence defined by distant muted cornets, a dark bass pedal, and a fragile, militaristic snare drum. A poignant cornet solo leads into the expressive flugel horn, introducing the solemn reminder: “O pray for peace, peace in Jerusalem.”

The Journey: Harmonic tension builds through rich textures to reflect the heavy costs, fears, and divisions of conflict.

The Climax & Stillness: A bold ceremonial fanfare ushers in a glorious, expansive setting of the poem’s final verse, before receding into a serene, tender stillness - leaving a persistent hope for peace.

This substantial work is an extraordinary addition to any brass band library and serves as an ideal centerpiece for Remembrance Sunday, historical commemorations, church services, or serious concert programming.

** 🏆 WINNER SPOTLIGHT: MARK VAUSE 🏆 **

Huge congratulations to MARK VAUSE, who delivered an absolutely stellar performance to take top honors in the BrookWright International Brass Solo Contest 2026 Over 18 category!

Mark’s musical journey began at age seven with Morecambe Brass Band, where he became principal cornet by 14 and won the prestigious Alexander Owen Memorial Scholarship. A graduate of the famed Salford banding degree course - where he was tutored by legends like Dave King, Roy Newsome, Darrol Barry, and Philip Sparke - Mark played with Foden's and was a National Solo Championship finalist.

With a rich conducting and teaching career including Cambridge University Brass Band, Langley Band, and 17 successful years as MD of Lichfield Concert Band, Mark recently moved back to his roots in Morecambe. He now serves as Director of Music at Ripley School in Lancaster, conducts Pilling Brass Band, and is back playing with Morecambe Band!

His lifelong dedication to brass playing shone through in his winning video, which truly captivated our judging panel.

🌟 BROOKWRIGHT SOLO CONTEST 2026: PUBLIC COMMENDATION PRIZE WINNER! 🌟

Watch the award-winning performance by 11-year-old cornetist Bradley Mahungu Kiangebeni, who captured the hearts of brass lovers around the globe to win the Public Commendation Prize in the BrookWright Solo Contest 2026! Bradley delivered a deeply moving rendition of 'Love Eternal'(Jarrod Cooper arr. Gavin Lamplough), receiving the highest number of public votes across the entire competition.

He also earned a podium placing by taking 3rd Place in the Under 18 Category!

🇨🇩🇺🇸 MEET THE WINNER: BRADLEY MAHUNGU KIANGEBENI

Born in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, in December 2015, Bradley comes from a fifth-generation Salvation Army family. The son of Salvation Army officers Captains John-Rene and Merveille Kiangebeni, Bradley arrived in the United States in 2017, living in New York, Michigan, and eventually making Chicago his home.

Inspired by his father, Bradley began trumpet lessons at age six and developed a deep passion for Salvation Army brass bands. Since June 2023, he has played with the Chicago Midwest Corps Brass Band and the Norridge Salvation Army Youth Band. At just nine years old, Bradley was invited to perform alongside the Chicago Staff Band.

His accolades include earning first-chair placements in the NCI Wonderland Band (2025 & 2026), first place in the 2026 NCI Territorial Rising Star Competitions (US Central Territory, Level 3), and playing in the Merit School of Music's Symphonic Band program. Known for his kind, respectful spirit, Bradley views music as a gift to be used for God's glory, desiring to encourage others and share his faith through every note he plays.

🥇 BROOKWRIGHT SOLO CONTEST 2026: U18 CHAMPION PERFORMANCE! 🥇

Watch the winning performance by Elijah Baker (Euphonium), who claimed 1st Place in the Under 18 Category of the BrookWright International Brass Solo Contest 2026! 🏆

Elijah delivered a beautiful rendition of Novus Vitae, earning a competition-high score of 186 points out of 200 (95/100 from Emily Evans, 91/100 from Les Neish).

🇦🇺 MEET THE CHAMPION: ELIJAH BAKER

Elijah Baker is a 15-year-old musician from Sydney, Australia, who has just moved to Philadelphia to begin his studies at the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music. He has grown up immersed in brass banding, performing with ensembles such as Willoughby City Band, the Sydney Youth Band of The Salvation Army, and Australia Brass, with whom he performed at the World Music Contest in Kerkrade, Netherlands.

In 2026 alone, Elijah achieved the historic feat of winning both the Junior and Open Champion of Champions titles at the Australian National Band Championships - becoming the youngest of only two musicians in history to achieve this distinction. He is also a four-time Australian National Junior Tenor Trombone Champion and recently won the 2026 Gilberto Gagliardi Competition at the International Trombone Festival in Riga, Latvia!

Prior to moving to the US, Elijah was a Year 10 student at the Conservatorium High School in Sydney, studying under Gregory van de Struik (Opera Australia). Just days after performing the euphonium solo 'There Will Be God' with the Melbourne Staff Band, Elijah relocated to Philadelphia to begin his studies at the Curtis Institute of Music.

** CALL (BRASS BAND) ZACHARY DOCTER **

This short concert opener by American composer Zachary Docter is built around a trumpet-call motif, first heard in canon at the outset. The motif is gradually developed before a broader, more substantial theme emerges in the trombones. This new material is then explored and expanded, eventually combining with the original motif in a grand, climactic conclusion.

Harmonically, the work draws on the perfect intervals of the opening call, creating a sound world that feels contemporary while remaining accessible. Energetic and effective, it makes an ideal concert opener without presenting excessive technical demands for most bands.
