Did you know I also sell caterpillars and butterflies? Just like furniture, this started as a hobby before people expressed interest in purchasing caterpillars for their kids as a fun activity or to teach about the butterfly life cycle. Others order butterflies to release at weddings, memorials, birthdays, and or just for the heck of it.

I don't do this all the time but when the conditions are right, like this year, it's a fun and rewarding little side hustle. DFW Butterfly Release is my page if you'd like to check it out.

As a DIY creator I get a lot of hate. I get it, some of you dont agree with painting over wood. I know most of you will say "dont put yourself on the internet if you dont want opinions" and opinions are fine, but when you give an opinion that is false the double down on it, I'm gonna say something.

Welp, the opinion of podcast host Christine Vitale, a radio podcast host from Hudson River Radio, a self proclaimed antique expert decided to double down on a vintage china cabinet that I recently posted, claiming I'm destroying the value of antiques.

Ive reached out to Hudson River Radio to see if I can get an opinion on this on their podcast and listeners. They "discuss anything" as stated on their page.

Let's see if they respond.

UPDATE: She hasn't worked with this radio station in over three years according to an email I received from Hudson River Radio. 😂 Not a peep out of her since. Creators, dont let people bully you. Call them out. Ez money.

Someone just gave me this antique dresser. Can you believe this paint job? 🤭 It's in rough shape, the whole thing needs repair but I'll remove all this paint and see what's underneath.

Just got another grandfather clock for free. That's right. Free! This one is handmade and signed on the back.The clock isn't working but this one has actual weights. Probably not worth fixing the clock but it would make a cute curio cabinet with a little makeover. Ideas?

Before and after on this custom provincial set. Who else out there had this white/gold set when they were young? We updated it with this beautiful turquoise and gold finish with dark walnut stain glazing for a satisfying texture and depth. Time to move on to the next project! Got something you want me to paint? I am nearly done with this turquoise custom order and I wanted to share a before/after of this stain glazing technique that I use. This is a perfect example of how glazing with wood stain tints the paint to tone things down and give the furniture some depth, especially with curvy drawers!

The difference between glazing with oil based wood stain vs water based glazes is that the stain actually tints the paint rather than just being a layer applied over the base coat. Its a little tricky figuring out what base color to get and when I first started there was a lot of trial and error but the extra effort is well worth it.

Adding gold tomorrow to finish everything off. I'll be posting some more pics and videos later. Check back soon!

Last coat of paint drying on this turquoise set. It won't stay this bright for long... I'll be glazing it with brown tomorrow.
