We loved spending our day yesterday at Region 7’s Emergent Bilingual Conference in Kilgore! It was great to meet passionate educators of English Language Learners from across East Texas. We were also so fortunate to bring Texas authors Rebecca Balcarcel and Ray Villareal to meet the participants and sign their books.

We’re grateful to Arte Público Press for partnering with us to bring books representing the Texas multicultural and multilingual experience to educators at the conference.

We were so happy to be at the Ignite Early Childhood Conference today hosted by ESC Region 11. It was great to share our love for books and see all of the innovative ways teachers are incorporating reading skills and comprehension in the classroom. We enjoyed getting to meet all of the wonderful early childhood educators from across Region 11 and North Texas!

Express Booksellers just wrapped up participating in our first ever virtual conference!

We spent the last 3 days at I.M. Texas 2020 hosted by The Instructional Materials Coordinators' Association of Texas (IMCAT). It was great getting to meet Instructional Materials Coordinators from across the state of Texas and telling them about the wide range of books we provide including textbooks, dictionaries, class novels, and staff development titles.

We loved getting to chat with all the attendees that procure books for schools in Texas and sharing one of our favorite new titles: The Distance Learning Playbook (Corwin)!

On Tuesday, Express Booksellers was so happy to get the chance to exhibit at the Pasadena ISD Vendor Fair for the first time! With a request that all the vendors dress up as superheroes, Jule dressed up as Cat in the Hat, because book characters are our superheroes at EBS!

We loved meeting so many great PISD educators, including teachers from the Special Education department. We can’t wait to do more business with you all in the future!

We had all hands on deck for our Changing The Odds conference bookstore this year! Jule, Sonia, Korey, and Nancy manned the cash registers as they sold 1000s of books to the awesome attendees of this wonderful conference hosted by Momentous Institute. We loved meeting so many people in the education and mental health fields passionate about changing the odds of all children and learning about the hidden factors that affect us all.

This is one of the biggest highlights of our year because we get to curate a collection of books focused on empathy, social and emotional health, and themes like belonging and hidden factors for the amazing educators, professionals, and leaders that come to be inspired each year. We are proud to have been providing the bookstore at Changing The Odds conferences since they began in 2012.

Every summer, our entire Express Booksellers family comes together on a weekend to work on a huge classroom library book order for a Texas school district. We work in teams to pick individual titles, check them off, and finally deliver them to be packed. In the span of just a few hours, over 60 classroom library sets totaling almost 4,000 books are packed and put on huge pallets to be shipped out.

It makes all of us so happy to pack classroom sets of awesome new and beloved books that reflect the diversity of the experiences of the students who will read them.

We spent Saturday at the Dallas Public Library for the 2019 Dallas Festival of Books and Ideas selling books for great local authors and illustrators.

We were lucky enough to hear Laura Numeroff (author of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie) and Mayor Mike Rawlings speak at the Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge Kickoff. We had a bunch of parents and children come by to stock up on books for the challenge.

Express Booksellers always loves the opportunity to partner with SCBWI North Texas writers and illustrators. It’s exciting to think about all the locally authored and illustrated children’s books that will start to be read by new readers in Dallas.

SCBWI North Texas - a group for children's writers and illustrators

This week’s EBS Kids’ Book Pick is written by Dallas author Nancy Churnin. “Charlie Takes His Shot” is about Charlie Sifford, a 2014 Presidential Medal of Freedom winner.

From a young age, Charlie Sifford was drawn to the sport of golf, but because of his skin color, he wasn’t allowed to play at private clubs or in PGA tournaments. He didn’t let this discrimination stop him from his golfing dreams, so he became a caddie, played at public golf courses, and worked his hardest to be the best golfer around. While strides were being made in the integration and civil rights movements, the PGA lagged behind. With the help of a Jewish lawyer who had also experienced discrimination, Charlie became the first black pro-golfer on the PGA tour. Despite many obstacles he continued to face, Charlie’s hard work and resilience paid off. Decades later, Tiger Woods even credited Charlie with his inspiration for joining the game of golf.

Express Booksellers was happy to be in beautiful Corpus Christi, Texas today at the Goodbuy Vendor Showcase hosted by Education Service Center, Region 2.

We loved having the opportunity to share the great range of books we can provide to the Region 2 members in South Texas. EBS is able to provide anything from children’s and young adult books and instructional materials to bilingual dictionaries at great discounts for our clients.

We just got back from the North Texas Textbook Coordinators Association – Instructional Materials Vendor Fair in Plano, Texas hosted by Region 10 Education Service Center and ESC Region 11!

It was great to meet with Instructional Materials Coordinators from Region 10 and Region 11 and let them know about the wide range of books we provide including dictionaries that comply with STAAR testing guidelines. We loved getting to meet all of the representatives that procure books for school districts in North Texas!
