Many Christians get one of these wrong.

Some separate themselves from the world so completely that they stop loving the people in it.

Others become so accepted by the world that they become indistinguishable from it.

Jesus did neither.

He ate with sinners.

He touched lepers.

He showed compassion to the broken.

Yet He never lowered the standard of truth.

A.W. Tozer wrote:

"We are sent to bless the world, but we are never told to compromise with it."

The church is called to be a light.

A light must be in the darkness.

But it must never become part of the darkness.

The answer is not isolation.

The answer is not compromise.

The answer is faithful obedience to Christ.

"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." — Romans 12:2

The easiest person to evaluate is someone else.

Their attitude.

Their mistakes.

Their compromises.

Their failures.

The hardest person to evaluate is the one staring back from the mirror.

A.W. Tozer wrote:

"A pharisee is hard on others and easy on himself, but a spiritual man is easy on others and hard on himself."

It is possible to know what is wrong with everyone around you...

and still be blind to your own pride.

Your own bitterness.

Your own hypocrisy.

Your own need for grace.

The Pharisee asks:

"What's wrong with them?"

The spiritual man asks:

"Lord, what is wrong with me?"

One produces criticism.

The other produces humility.

One points fingers.

The other bows its head.

Before you examine someone else's life today...

ask God to examine yours.

"Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts." — Psalm 139:23

Knowledge is one of the easiest things to accumulate.

Transformation is one of the hardest.

A person can hear hundreds of sermons.

Read dozens of books.

Memorize entire chapters of Scripture.

And still remain unchanged.

Leonard Ravenhill said:

"There's a difference between changing your opinion, and changing your lifestyle."

Truth was never given merely to inform us.

It was given to transform us.

The real test of what we believe is not what we say.

It's how we live when nobody is watching.

"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." — James 1:22

Most people are hard on others.

Few are hard on themselves.

We notice their pride.

Their compromise.

Their hypocrisy.

Their impatience.

But when was the last time you asked:

"Lord, what am I blind to in my own life?"

Not my neighbor.

Not my spouse.

Not my pastor.

Me.

Ask Him to expose every excuse.

Every hidden motive.

Every selfish ambition.

Every place where pride still survives.

Then don't defend it.

Don't justify it.

Don't rename it.

Bring it into the light.

A.W. Tozer wrote:

"Be hard on yourself and easy on others. Carry your own cross but never lay one on the back of another."

The Pharisee inspects everyone else's heart.

The disciple invites God to inspect his own.

Humility begins where self-examination begins.

"Search me, O God, and know my heart." — Psalm 139:23

One of the oldest tricks of humanity is to rename sin.

Not to forsake it.

Not to fight it.

Not to repent of it.

Just rename it.

Pride becomes self-expression.

Greed becomes ambition.

Lust becomes freedom.

Covetousness becomes success.

And sin becomes a struggle that no longer needs to be confronted.

Leonard Ravenhill warned:

"We are living in an unprecedented day when evil is no longer evil. We've changed the terminology--iniquity is now infirmity; wickedness is now weakness; devilry is now deficiency."

Changing the label does not change the condition.

Calling darkness light does not make it light.

And redefining sin does not remove the need for repentance.

The most loving thing God does is call things what they are.

Because what is concealed cannot be healed.

And what is excused will never be forsaken.

"Woe to those who call evil good and good evil." — Isaiah 5:20

Most people ask God to change their circumstances.

Few ask Him to change them.

We pray for open doors.

Better finances.

Less stress.

More opportunities.

But when was the last time you prayed:

"Lord, show me what is wrong with me?"

Not my spouse.

Not my pastor.

Not my church.

Me.

Ask Him to expose every excuse.

Every compromise.

Every hidden idol.

Every area where you've settled for less than obedience.

Then don't defend it.

Don't explain it.

Don't negotiate with it.

Put it on the altar.

The Christian life does not begin with self-improvement.

It begins with surrender.

The cross is not an accessory.

It is an ex*****on.

And dead men don't negotiate the terms of their death.

"Whoever wants to be My disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow Me." — Luke 9:23

The early church did not gather to be comfortable.

They gathered because they believed people were dying without Christ.

They prayed.

They wept.

They preached.

They sacrificed.

And the world knew they were serious.

Today, many churches spend more energy keeping people comfortable than calling people to repentance.

More concerned with preferences than prayer.

More concerned with attendance than awakening.

That's why Leonard Ravenhill warned:

"The early church was a lifeboat for rescuing the perishing. Today's church is a cruise ship for pampering the prosperous."

A lifeboat exists for those in danger.

A cruise ship exists for those seeking comfort.

One is driven by urgency.

The other by convenience.

The question is not whether the church is growing.

The question is whether it still remembers why it exists.

"The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost." — Luke 19:10

Not everything that grows is healthy.

A crowd can be gathered.

A building can be full.

A ministry can be impressive.

And yet Christ can still be absent from the center.

That's why A.W. Tozer warned:

"It's better to have a little church that is real than a big church that is artificial."

God has never measured success the way people do.

He is not looking for the biggest platform.

He is looking for genuine faith.

Not performance.

Not image.

Not religious appearances.

But hearts that truly know Him.

A church may be small and unnoticed by the world...

yet rich in prayer,
rich in truth,
and rich in the presence of God.

And that is worth more than all the crowds in the world.

"Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." — 1 Samuel 16:7

What would you rather be part of:

A large church that impresses people...

or a real church that pleases God?

There is a longing in every human heart that nothing in this world can satisfy.

People spend years chasing success.
Accumulating possessions.
Seeking approval.
Pursuing one more experience that promises fulfillment.

Yet the ache remains.

Why?

Because the deepest hunger of the soul was never meant to be filled by the things of earth.

It was made for Christ.

Charles Spurgeon understood that there is a joy, a wonder, and a satisfaction found in the presence of Jesus that everything else can only imitate.

The world can entertain you.

It cannot satisfy you.

The world can excite you.

It cannot sustain you.

But one moment in the presence of Christ can awaken the heart in a way nothing else ever will.

"Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides You." — Psalm 73:25

Is your heart pursuing Christ today, or merely the things that promise what only He can give?

Some people leave church saying:

"I didn't get much out of worship today."

But worship was never primarily about you.

It was never meant to entertain you.
Impress you.
Or cater to your preferences.

Worship is an offering.

It is the humble response of a heart that has seen the worth of God.

The question isn't:

"Did I enjoy it?"

The question is:

"Was Christ honored?"

Billy Graham said it plainly:

"Worship isn't supposed to be entertainment."

Because when the focus shifts from God's glory to our experience, worship becomes a performance.

And the church becomes a stage.

Don't look for a show.

Look for the Savior.

"Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness." — Psalm 29:2
