Available today, the first book of Antonio Moresco’s colossal Games of Eternity trilogy, THE BEGINNINGS by Antonio Moresco — translated by Max Lawton.

“The Games of Eternity trilogy is one of the most daring and visionary works ever to appear in Italian literature. It has inspired and terrified at least two generations of Italian writers.” —Vincenzo Latronico

“A sublime masterpiece.” —Grace Byron

“A towering absurdist work.” —Publishers Weekly

“A hypnotic and dreamlike book, punctuated by moments of effervescent clarity.” —Chicago Review of Books

“The prose of The Beginnings is a camouflage that wants nothing more intensely than to fully reveal itself in all of its disruptive possibilities.” —COM-POSIT

“The Beginnings achieves something of considerable difficulty, and something deeply liberating, in times in which explanatory writing, philosophical and existential musings risk to be re-branded as escapism for adults: he manages to build a deeply philosophical book through the sheer energy of literary presentation.” —Reading in Translation

A first-of-its-kind history of Dallas told through the city’s most significant buildings.

With an exceptional blend of architectural history, social history, and critical writing, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Mark Lamster takes readers to the sun-scorched origins of Dallas as a remote outpost on the Texas frontier, then traces the city’s development into the dynamic, if imperfect, metropolis we know today. Welcome to Paradox City is an illuminating, illustrated look at the often-invisible ways that architecture shapes a city and its culture from its founding, to the present, and onward into the future.

Available August 4th, 2026.

COVER SPOTLIGHT! River of Blessings by David Marquis, from La Reunion Press.

The River of Blessings, the third and final installment in David Marquis’ River Trilogy, is a lyrical meditation on the unpredictable movements of life and the stream of blessings that come in their own, unpredictable time with the pursuit of goodness.

“Life is not a vending machine,” begins David Marquis’ The River of Blessings, “You can’t simply put in a good deed, a good work, and immediately get a blessing in return.” Instead, life and its blessings flow like a river, sometimes unpredictable and nonlinear, sometimes flowing with force and other times like a trickle. In The River of Blessings, David Marquis (David Marquis) asks readers to embrace life’s mysteries and let go of its burdens in order to feel the full weight of its blessings more fully.

Deep Vellum is excited to announce the forthcoming publication of Love Letters by J.K. Franko.

Love Letters is a formally inventive novel composed of interconnected stories, memoir fragments, criticism, screenplay, and poetry. Across shifting voices and recurring characters, the novel explores how writers, readers, lovers, and strangers attempt, and often fail, to communicate meaningfully with one another.

At once playful and emotionally serious, Love Letters stages an ongoing dialogue between writers, readers, critics, and fictional characters, gradually dissolving the boundaries separating them. The novel asks whether literature is merely language on a page or an attempt by one consciousness to reach another across isolation and time.

Love Letters is slated to be released in April of 2027.

J.K. Franko is the author of the Talion trilogy (Eye for Eye, Tooth for Tooth, and Life for Life), the standalone thriller Killing Johnny Miracle, and the literary novel Love Letters. His novels have been published in Spanish translation by Grupo Planeta and Penguin Random House Spain. His first Spanish-language novel, Última Navidad en Madrid, is forthcoming from Penguin Random House Spain. A dual United States-Spanish citizen, Franko is founder and editor of Sine Qua Non and writes fiction and criticism exploring authorship, morality, memory, and human connection. He holds a PhD in Literature from the University of Texas at Dallas and lives between Texas and Spain.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—

Deep Vellum and A Strange Object are pleased to announce the acquisition of KEEP YOUR ENEMIES CLOSE by Doris W. Cheng, represented by Sarah Burnes at The Gernert Company, for publication in August 2027 (world).

KEEP YOUR ENEMIES CLOSE is a novel about a Taiwanese American woman’s fixation with Holden Caulfield and a paean to female rage. It is at once a provocative recasting of the now-standardized immigrant narrative, an interrogation of the power structures and societal expectations that have shaped that narrative, and a deeply funny book reminiscent at once of Elaine Hsieh Chou’s Disorientation and Philip Roth’s Portnoy’s Complaint.

Jill Meyers, editor of A Strange Object, comments on the acquisition: “KEEP YOUR ENEMIES CLOSE is brilliant, incendiary—and deeply funny. I laughed so much reading it and was also deeply surprised. It does not submit to expectations.”

Doris W. Cheng is fiction editor at Bellevue Literary Review. She has been a finalist for the PEN/Bellwether Prize and is the author of Earthling, a chapbook of stories from Word West Press.

A Strange Object was founded in Austin, Texas in 2012 by Jill Meyers and Callie Collins. It became an imprint of Deep Vellum in 2019. A Strange Object publishes surprising, heartbreaking fiction alongside thoughtful works of nonfiction that defy categorization. We’re talking about books that haunt and inspire us—big work that engulfs, that takes risks, that bucks form, that builds warm dwellings in dark places.
