Trauma Talks ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ
Real conversations on healing, resilience, and transformation ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ’™ Hosted by Krystal Boothe, LCSW, we dive deep into trauma recovery, mental health, and breaking generational cycles. She grew up in Detroit, MI, in an underprivileged and abusive home, where her father had two wives. The harsh realities of her upbringing took a toll on her education, leading her to be placed in special

education classes. Despite these challenges, Krystalโ€™s resilience and determination led her to break free from generational cycles of abuse, although she later found herself becoming a victim of similar patterns in adulthood. Now, with over a decade of experience in the mental health field, Krystal specializes in working with dual-diagnosis clients at a Substance Abuse Treatment Facility. She has dedicated her career to helping individuals identify and overcome childhood trauma, which she has found to be the root cause of emotional dysregulation for many of her patients. Through Trauma Talks with Krystal Boothe, she brings her clinical expertise, personal experiences, and passion for healing to a broader audience. Her mission is to educate, empower, and inspire individuals to break free from trauma, regain control over their lives, and cultivate emotional well-being. Join Krystal on this journey to healingโ€”because you deserve to thrive, not just survive.

Many trauma survivors think regulation means fixing, controlling, or getting rid of uncomfortable emotions as quickly as possible.

But true regulation is something very different.

Regulation is not performance. It is not doing more, staying busy, forcing positivity, or trying to make difficult feelings disappear. Regulation is the ability to stay present with yourself while your nervous system moves through the experience.

When you breathe slowly, soften your chest, ground your body, and remain connected to yourself, you are practicing regulation. The goal is not to avoid discomfort. The goal is to stay.

Healing happens when the nervous system learns that it can remain present without abandoning itself.

Many trauma survivors learned to disconnect from their feelings in order to maintain connection with other people. They learned to ignore their pain, minimize their emotions, and convince themselves they were fine even when they were deeply hurt.

But healing teaches something different.

God does not require self-abandonment for connection. You do not have to rush to make yourself feel better, explain away your pain, or pretend something did not hurt. Sometimes healing looks like sitting with the feeling, acknowledging the wound, and giving yourself permission to be present with what is real.

Emotional healing begins when you stop abandoning yourself and start honoring your experience with compassion, patience, and truth.

Regulation is not pretending to be calm. It is learning how to notice your emotions, calm your body, and choose your next response.

Try the 3-step reset: pause, breathe, name the feeling.

A trigger is a signal, not your identity. It tells you that something in the present touched something unresolved from the past.

Many trauma survivors feel emotionally responsible for everyone around them.

This can look like:

- guilt

- overexplaining

- people-pleasing

- emotional overfunctioning

- fixing others

- fear of conflict

- emotional burnout

- self-abandonment

One powerful nervous system healing tool is learning how to name what you are feeling.

Saying: โ€œRight now, I feel like I have to fix this.โ€

helps the brain separate:

- reality

- fear

- survival responses

- and emotional habits formed through trauma

This short explains:

- emotional responsibility trauma

- guilt and trauma responses

- nervous system healing

- emotional boundaries

- self-empathy

- trauma-informed healing

- survival mode patterns

- emotional regulation

Healing means learning how to support yourself without carrying responsibility for everyone elseโ€™s emotions.

Trauma, anxiety, stress, and survival responses are not only mental experiences.

They are also stored in the body.

Somatic work helps the nervous system release tension, stress energy, emotional overwhelm, and survival activation through body-based healing practices.

Simple somatic healing tools can include:

stretching

shaking your hands

walking

dancing

gentle movement

grounding exercises

Movement helps signal safety to the nervous system and supports emotional regulation.

This short explains:
