47.7 MILLION people in the United States are currently facing food insecurity - and millions of them are children.

But true community care isn’t just about having food; it’s about making access easy, dignified, and accessible.

In our coming episode of the Black Business Live podcast, Regina Harmon (CEO of Food Recovery Network) shares how they are bypassing the traditional, exhausting food lines by delivering fresh produce directly to Title I elementary schools.

By meeting parents and guardians right at pickup, they are putting fresh food exactly where families already are. No extra gas money, no extra trips.

This is how we build modern-day storehouses. Stay tuned for the episode drop this week and subscribe using your favorite podcast app: https://bblivepodcast.transistor.fm/subscribe

Between the high-energy World Cup matches and prepping for October's conference season, there's a lot of talk about what makes a winning play. But some of the most impactful ex*****on is happening right now in our own neighborhoods.

This week on the podcast, we're introducing a leader who treats economic self-reliance as an absolute necessity. Meet Regina Harmon.

As a University of Maine alumna, she has spent the last decade guiding Food Recovery Network to change how resource distribution works from the ground up. Instead of just leaning on traditional charity models, the organization has teamed up with household names like Papa John’s and Hellmann’s to fix structural flaws in the supply chain - always keeping the focus on addressing racial disparities and health outcomes in our communities.

How do you use technology without losing the soul of your vision?

In a recent conversation with , Wale Mafolasire (CEO of ) broke down why they use AI to understand human psychology rather than just processing transactions. They look at millions of users and ask a fundamental question: How do we help you become the type of giver you imagine yourself to be?

Givelify’s Giving in Faith report highlights the “consistency shortfall”: the massive gap between a person’s desire to support a cause and their actual follow-through. By embedding behavioral science into their tech, they actively help people bridge the gap between their intentions and their actions.

What measures are you exploring to keep your mission human-centric, while embracing and scaling technology?

Wale Mafolasire kept hitting the same wall. First, it was sitting in a church pew, realizing he could read the Bible on his phone but couldn't use it to give digitally because his wallet was empty.

Then, it was at fundraising events, filling out physical giving cards only to forget the follow-up later.
He realized he needed to create a solution for the spontaneous giver like himself: the person who wants to support a cause in the moment but doesn't have the administrative structure to follow up later.

The critics and investors told him his approach was impossible to execute the way he wanted to. They warned him that larger companies would just "crush" them.

But Wale was trained in a military school. He already knew how to handle rejection and face daily challenges head-on.

Instead of letting the skepticism stall him, he made a vow to stop chasing outside validation. He knew the next step was to look inward, pull from within, and rely completely on his own ex*****on to build the platform his way.

That entrepreneurial "click" changed everything. Today, Givelify supports over 2 million organizations that have collectively processed over 7.5 billion transactions. 📈

When you solve a real problem for real organizations and have the discipline to block out the noise, the market notices.

Persistence is the price of vision. "You just gotta do what you gotta do". And for Wale, that meant he had to be the one to fund the future himself, even if he had to sell his car for it - and be without one for 6 years in Indianapolis!

What is one big sacrifice you had to make in order to keep your vision alive?
