HYDRATED PETS ARE HAPPIER PETS! As temperatures begin to rise, proper hydration becomes extremely important for both dogs and cats. Water plays a vital role in regulating body temperature, supporting organ function, aiding digestion, and keeping joints healthy. Pets can become dehydrated much faster during warm weather, especially when spending time outdoors, exercising, or traveling. Signs of dehydration may include excessive panting, dry gums, lethargy, sunken eyes, or loss of appetite. Cats are especially prone to dehydration because they naturally tend to drink less water than dogs. Offering fresh, clean water at all times, adding moisture-rich foods like raw or canned diets, bone broth, or goat milk, and providing shade and cooling areas can help keep pets healthy and comfortable throughout the warmer months. Even mild dehydration can quickly become serious, so encouraging consistent hydration is one of the simplest and most important ways to protect your pet during spring and summer.

Fostering Saves Lives, One Pet at a Time

Fostering can have an incredible impact on the life of a homeless animal. Every year, shelters and rescues become overcrowded, and foster homes provide pets with something they desperately need — safety, comfort, love, and a chance to thrive outside of a stressful shelter environment. Fostering not only helps save lives by opening up space for other animals in need, but it also gives
pets an opportunity to heal, relax, socialize, and prepare for their forever homes. Even fostering for a short period of time can make the difference between life and death for a pet waiting for a second chance.

National Heimlich Maneuver Day! Safety tips for a choking dog.

First, check your dog’s mouth for any visible object. If you can safely remove it, do so carefully.

For Small Dogs:
Hold your dog with their back against your chest.
Place your fist just below the rib cage and give 3-5 quick inward and upward thrusts.

For Large Dogs:
Lay your dog on their side or stand behind them.
Place your hands just behind the rib cage and give 3-5 firm inward and upward thrusts.

After each attempt:
Check the mouth to see if the object has become dislodged.
Even if successful, contact your veterinarian immediately to ensure no injury occurred.

Never perform the Heimlich maneuver unless you suspect your dog is actually choking. Excessive force can cause injury.

Being prepared can make all the difference in an emergency. Consider keeping a pet first-aid kit at home and in your vehicle.
