Our Story

“Tall oaks from little acorns grow,” was the motto of The Ridgefield Press when D. Crosby Baxter founded the newspaper in 1875. From four tiny sheets of local gossip and aphorisms to a weekly newspaper sometimes carrying more than 60 broadsheet pages, The Press has grown — and expanded to include the World Wide Web. In the 1990s, it was one of the first newspapers in Connecticut to embrace the Internet, and has maintained a strong Web following to this day. The Press and its staff have won many journalism and public service awards over the years and continue to focus exclusively on the news and the people of Ridgefield. The Ridgefield Press is part of Hearst Connecticut Media Group. The largest local news operation in the state with more than 200 journalists, Hearst Connecticut Media Group is comprised of eight daily newspapers including the New Haven Register, Connecticut Post, Greenwich Time, Stamford Advocate and The Norwalk Hour, and 16 weekly newspapers including the Darien Times, Fairfield Citizen, New Canaan Advertiser, The Greater New Milford Spectrum and Westport News.
