I have been exploring new authors, at least new to me. I finished The Women by Kristin Hannah (Firefly Lane & The Nightingale). This is a story of the women serving in Vietnam, the war, the veterans, the US during the late 60's and early 70's, told from a female prospective.
The Women tells the story of the nurses not discussed until now. These war hardened ladies are not the portrait of "Hot Lips Hoolahan" a portrayal the actress fought to change while the hit show M.A.S.H. was in production.
Kristin Hannah's characters come alive and you want to cheer for their triumphs and cry for their struggles. She shows the women and men coming home during a time in our country facing protests from an unpopular war, suffering from PTSD, misunderstood by their own families.
This book should be read by anyone wanting to understand this tumultuous time in US history and to learn more about PTSD.
