📍 Featured Business: The Inn at Burklyn
A Labor of Love, A Family Tradition

Restoring The Inn at Burklyn wasn’t just a project—it was a passion. When the Crone family fell in love with this historic mansion, they spent two years carefully bringing it back to life, preserving its original charm while adding modern comforts. Now, they get to share its beauty with both locals and travelers in the magical Northeast Kingdom. It sure was a labor of love to restore the mansion, in keeping and restoring as many original details as possible and seeing both Inn guests and diners’ eyes light up when they walk through the door or enjoy a sunset cocktail on the porch overlooking the sweeping views of the mountains and Darling Hill Road brings us so much joy.

Burklyn is truly a family affair. Owners Marci and Jim Crone run the inn alongside their children—Michael, who oversees every detail as Innkeeper and Restaurant Manager; Jaya, who curates weddings and special events; Madison, who keeps the mansion sparkling and welcoming; and granddaughter SiennaJane, who pitches in whenever she’s in town.

Of course, the Burklyn family extends beyond the Crones. From the chefs crafting unforgettable meals to the front-of-house staff making every stay special, and the hardworking maintenance team keeping the inn running smoothly, each person plays a role in creating a warm and welcoming experience. Guests might even get lucky enough to share a glass from Jim’s extensive wine collection—just one of the many small touches that make Burklyn so unique.

Good for the whole month!

The North Star was first established in 1807 by an expatriate from Connecticut. Ebenezer Eaton arrived in northern Vermont by ox sled, bringing his family and a printing press to Danville, the newly settled seat of Caledonia County. A century later, the North Star has been re-established as a monthly community magazine, and its pages are devoted to the "reinforcement of the value of community" by publishing stories from a wide range of interests and writers. The North Star Monthly has been honored by the Vermont Press Association with awards for feature writing and photography. Justin and Ginni Lavely took the paper over in July 2008 and are likewise committed to the people, places and institutions that for many of us make small towns home. Feature stories and human interest articles describe the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont and often reach beyond into northern New Hampshire and the rest of Vermont. Above all, The North Star offers the stories we all have to tell. These are real people telling real stories.
