From Bro. Dave Evans
”Give us this day our daily bread.” (Matthew 6:11) Our verse is part of what some scholars call the “Lord’s Prayer,” some call it the “Model Prayer.” Jesus did say, “After this manner therefore pray ye.” Every time I read that prayer it gets me, especially verse 11. Just seven words but I find myself wondering, do I ask for too much? Do we ask for too much? I reminded we are often focused more on the asking. I mean we ask and we ask and we ask. Are we more focused on the getting than the Giver? Do we make the mistake of asking for too much bread? I read of a wise man who prayed this simple prayer. “Dear God, Your will, nothing more, nothing less, nothing else. In Jesus Name Amen.” Lest we forget praying really isn’t about you or me, it is about God! Still our loving Heavenly Father tells us to make our petitions known. “Sweet hour of prayer, Sweet hour of prayer, that call me from a world of care and bids at my Father’s throne make all my wants and wishes know! In season of distress and grief, my soul has often found relief, and oft escaped the tempters snare by Thy return sweet hour of prayer.” Praying you all have a blessed Friday!

From Bro. Dave Evans
“Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you may answer each one.” (Col. 4:6) As Christians our words should always be gracious, that is, we need to put kindness and love behind what we say. It seems to me at least, there is way too much hateful angry speech going around, especially in today’s world. I remember when we were growing up we had a saying that said, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me,” Well I think we all have learned that is not true. Words can hurt. They can cut us to the very depths of our being. My Mom used to say, “If you can’t say something good about someone don’t say anything at all.” I think Jesus would agree with that. As Christians our words should be like salt, pure, antiseptic, and penetrating. Speaking the truth in Love is what Paul said. I believe our world would be a better place if we would try that. Think about the words to this song for a moment. “Though I may speak with bravest fire, and have the gift to all inspire, and have not love, my words are vain; as sounding brass, and hopeless gain.” Praying you all have a blessed Monday!
