Roadside Recording Studio is a 640 square foot open concept recording space located on the third floor of an 1806 farmhouse in beautiful Danville, Vermont; a part of the state's rural Northeast Kingdom region. Roadside was officially started in 1996 by Ryan Dauphin in his parents' basement. The early days consisted of a 4-track tape machine and then a move to digital based recording in the late '9

0s. Our current studio set up centers around a British-era Midas Venice 320 analog console going into modified vintage transformer-based Altec Lansing preamps with Burr Brown operational amps. From the preamps, the signal flows through (2) 8 channel Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 interfaces into an Apple iMac (with 16 gigs of ram & a 1 TB hard drive). Our collection of modern and vintage outboard gear includes preamps from Universal Audio, Groove Tubes and Applied Research and Technology, and vintage Shure; Compressors by Empirical Labs (Distressor), Shure (vintage SE-30- Level Loc), FMR Audio (RNC), vintage Ashly (SC-50); Ashly PQ66 Parametric EQ and more! We are currently tracking within Logic Studio 9, a very professional multi-tracking and composing platform. Plug-ins include programs from Apple, Waves, Slate Digital, Izotope, Soundtoys, Focusrite and Toontrack. We are monitoring through Adam A7's nearfield monitors with an iKey-Audio sub woofer (primary), with 2nd reference through Behringer Truth B2030A's. Our headphone collection includes: Beyerdynamic DT880, AKG K240 (x3), AKG K271, and Vic Firth isolation headphones from drum tracking (x2). Our microphone collection includes mics from Mojave, Coles, AEA, Shure, Blue, Rode, EV, Cascade, AKG, Steanes, DBX, a homemade subkick and more. Are you a home recording engineer? Do you have a hard time getting your recordings to sound like your favorite commercial songs? We can help! Roadside also offers affordable mastering services for home recordists, to bring bedroom recordings to the next level. Email or message us to Inquire about scheduling and rates for your project. Rates are determined on a per project basis. Roadside is open for recording on weekends and a select week dates throughout the year. Living room jam tonight (with an attenuator: you are welcome neighbors)…. 1970s Hagstrom Swede with a Neutron. Quite possibly one of the greatest Marshall-style amps ever created and I’ve owned a bunch of them. I’m not the first one to say that, and I won’t be the last. Rocking that head with a custom suitcase-build 1X12 Celestion Greenback cab

Saw Bruce Springsteen in the E Street band for the 9th time in Boston last night at the Garden. A Poignant and angry jubilance and immediate for our current times. Was happy to have seats right against the FOH mixing console. Many great highlights, especially an unexpected cover of the Clash’s The Clampdown early in the set!

Went on a gear hunt last week and picked up this awesome 1964 Gibson GA-5T Skylark! 10 watts, built-in Tremolo and Weber Alnico Gold 10” speaker. This baby breaks up quickly and screams at low volumes. Scroll for a short clip and check out the full demo on the Roadside YouTube page. Link in bio!

A couple months ago we acquired this early ‘90s 12 channel Ramsa WR-8112 sidecar (right) to work alongside our trusty Midas Venice 320 primary mixer. The Midas is clear & punchy, and the Ramsa is a dirty bird with vibe for days. Can’t wait to start pushing tracks into the red with this little beast!!

In a separate creative endeavor, this is the first significant drawing I have made in 23 years to pay tribute to the one year passing of beloved Stella. We miss her every day.

I was going through the archives this morning and found this setlist from the first time I saw at on 8/24/18. I was thrilled that one of the techs handed me a setlist with guitar changes next to the songs. A gear head’s dream! Note the Lynyrd Skynyrd cover to end the show. Ed King had just passed away 2 days prior.
