TREACHEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS EXPECTED WITH WINTER STORM
NCDPS State Highway Patrol News Release • 1/10/2025 • Trooper B. Martin
TRIAD – With winter weather approaching our State and snow and ice predicted across the triad this evening and overnight tonight, the State Highway Patrol wants to urge citizens to avoid any unnecessary travel during this winter storm event. If you don’t have to be out, please stay home. Protect yourself and your families.
Staying off the road makes it easier, not only for road crews to clear highways but also for emergency personnel to get to life-threatening emergencies.
The Highway Patrol has worked diligently to ensure an ample number of troopers be available for the expected increase in calls for service, assist stranded motorists, and keep a check on motorists that may be stranded at our rest areas along the interstate.
Our mission is simple, to ensure safe and efficient travel on our roadways and to ensure that no motorists are left stranded during this winter storm event.
If you must be out, check on road conditions before setting out. Updated road conditions and closures can be located on the web at drivenc.gov.
Ensure that your gas tank is full in the event you become stranded so that you can stay warm until help arrives. Check the condition of your windshield wipers and ensure your headlights are working properly.
Have essential items in your car, like car chargers for your mobile devices, an ice scraper, bottled water, extra layers of clothing, medication, and jumper cables.
With expected extended response times from emergency personnel, in a non-emergency situation where your vehicle is stuck and you need a towing service, we encourage motorists to contact a towing service on your own. But be mindful that towing services will also be extremely busy themselves.
Dial *HP (*47 on your mobile device) or 911 for assistance in an emergency.
