You never know who you will meet on the campus of UMass Dartmouth.

UMass Dartmouth Chancellor Divina Grossman, Massachusetts State Senator Michael Rodrigues, and the Consul of Portugal Pedro Carneiro invited the University community and the general public to a Public Forum with Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools Alberto Carvalho. The Forum focused on a collaborative approach to innovation and transformation in PK-12 schools.

Superintendent Carvalho also met with STEM teachers and College of Arts & Sciences Dean Jen Riley.

Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, who was born in Lisbon, Portugal, leads the fourth-largest public school district in the U.S. with 350,000 students. His transformative work in Miami-Dade County Public Schools has won him the 2014 AASA National Superintendent of the Year Award, the 2014 PALCUS Leadership Award for Education, the 2013 Arts Education Award from Americans for the Arts, and for MDCPS, the Broad Prize in Urban Education.
