Last night, we said goodbye to Adam “Stump” Smith; a beloved coach, mentor, and friend who left us far too soon. His impact reached far beyond the baseball field, touching players, families, and programs across Volusia County.

Coach Stump gave his time, heart, and passion to the game and to the people around him, and that legacy will live on in every athlete and coach he inspired. Rest easy, Coach. Heaven gained one of the good ones. ⚾🧡🖤

Last night, the All Stars from Volusia and Lake Counties met up at Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium for the Cure All-Stars game. There were over 60 student athletes being celebrated, and the young men all seemed to have enjoyed themselves.

Today hurts.

Spruce Creek lost more than a coach today - we lost a genuinely good man. Coach Smith was the kind of person who showed up for people, for players, and for the game itself. The kind of presence that made a field feel like home.

There's something fitting about this image - Adam preparing the field before others arrived. Quietly doing the work that made everything else possible. That's who he was, a servant to the game, to his team, and to the people around him.

My heart goes out to his family by blood, and his baseball family at Spruce Creek Hawks Baseball. There are dugouts, fields, and lives that are better because Adam was part of them.

And while this loss feels impossible to understand today, I'd like to believe he's simply been called to care for a bigger field now; somewhere beyond the fences, where the lights never go out and the game never ends.

Rest easy, Coach. You'll be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

How can you not be romantic about baseball? Some images from last nights game at Spruce Creek Hawks Baseball. The Hawks fall in a tough 1-0 loss to Hagerty, who will advance to the Region Finals next weekend against West Orange.

If you’re in the 386, come out and watch some great baseball at Spruce Creek Hawks Baseball tomorrow. Game 2 of Region Semifinals at Noon, game 3 if needed begins 40 minutes after the end of G2.

Semifinal action this weekend at Spruce Creek Hawks Baseball as the Hawks will host Hagerty in a possible 3-game set. Game 1 Friday at 6pm, Game 2 Saturday at 1pm...and if needed, there will be a Game 3 Saturday at 4pm. Show up and support your team!
