At Good Earth Farm in Lennox, South Dakota, there is an annual ultra marathon called, The Blood Run.
It is an homage to the native land that was once called Blood Run, now Good Earth State Park a few miles away.
This run isn’t so much a race, as it is an aspiration toward individual achievement.
How far will your mind let your body go?
Each loop is 1.53 miles, and for every lap complete, you are given a marble in your jar as a tally. The run starts at midnight, as the co-founder Jeff finishes his gun and tonic.

Homestake Gold Mine was the longest operating mine in North America. The way it operated was a feat of engineering. Richard Blackstone was hired as a civil engineer to build railroads for the mine, but that soon developed into revolutionizing hydro power. Edison and Hearst were paying attention to the Black Hills of South Dakota because of the ingenuity of Blackstone.
