While you may know me primarily for my baking, another longstanding food passion of mine is lacto-fermenting veggies! It’s the traditional art of preserving the harvest using only fresh vegetables and mineral rich salt. No need to heat up your kitchen 😅 I’ll be teaching you how to prepare fermented pickles, sauerkraut, salsa and more to add delicious healthy probiotic filled treats to your diet. You’ll get to sample some fermented goodies, and leave with a recipe booklet and a jar of freshly prepared sauerkraut with a weight and a fermentation lid. Classes are $40 pp, and will be held at The Cupboard on 8/16 and 8/21. Stop by the shop at 115 Johnston St, SE or call 256-686-4500 to register!

I am thrilled to introduce Mel B's Fried Pies Banana Pudding pie, a classic recipe that originated from my family, which I have modified and transformed into a unique creation. For those unfamiliar with the delightful realm of fried desserts, a delightful treat awaits. No dietary restrictions could deter me from indulging in these delectable southern-style fried banana pudding pies as an occasional delight. A golden, flaky pie crust is essential in crafting these remarkable, light, soft, and delicious pastries. I fill them with a decadent banana pudding pastry cream filling. Finally, in true Southern fashion, I fry them. Come out on August 2nd to Morgan County/Decatur Farmers Market to purchase this wonderful treat of a unique pie you will definitely enjoy.

At Mel B's Fried Pies, we place immense value on our customers and community. We take great pride in being an integral part of Decatur, Alabama. We extend our sincerest gratitude for your unwavering support over the past two days. We appreciate Tess’ Place for inviting us to participate in their sweet treat event last night. The turnout was truly wonderful, and we eagerly anticipate the opportunity to be a part of this again. We had the pleasure of meeting some young men who will be attending the Regional Conference this upcoming weekend in Louisiana, the Decatur Nationals 12U All-stars. We offer our best wishes and hopes for their success in bringing home the championship. Congratulations, and we eagerly await the arrival of that trophy in Decatur, Alabama. Following a long day of work, I stopped by one of my favorite shops in Decatur. The owner has consistently allowed Mel B's Fried Pies to set up and sell our pies at her store, and I wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude to her and her team.
