Born and raised in Defiance, Ohio, Steve graduated from Hocking College with a degree in Police Science. He obtained certification as an OPOTA instructor (Ohio Police Officers Training Association) and embarked on a career in law enforcement in 1998. Throughout his time in the field, he worked in various capacities, including child support enforcement, SWAT, undercover narcotics agent, road patrol, and training officer. His dedication and skills led to a promotion to the rank of Sergeant. However, in 2023, he decided to leave law enforcement behind and pursue new opportunities. He found employment with a corporation and also pursued his passion as a tattoo artist.
From a young age, Steve delved into martial arts, receiving training in the art of Shuri Ryu under their uncle Dennis Wagner. In the 5th grade, he transitioned to wrestling and trained under Nick Pugh at Wauseon MMA in the mid-2000s. His expertise and experience eventually led to them becoming an assistant coach for the Tomahawk/Wauseon wrestling team. In 2019, he sought further training under Justin Flemens, focusing on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). Additionally, Steve trains alongside his brother and two sons in his martial arts endeavors.
