Dancing Pony Productions is pleased to announce their production of a staged reading of Sierra Rosetta’s original play, “From the Old Wood Forest” at the Newberry Library in Chicago. Based on a true story, “From the Old Wood Forest” was featured at the 9th Annual Yale Indigenous Performing Arts Program’s New Native Play Festival in April 2024. The staged reading will take place at The Newberry – Ruggles Hall on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 11:00 am.
“We are honored to present this staged reading of “From the Old Wood Forest” to our Chicago audience,” said Producer Louis Vasseur. “Sierra is one of the many talented up and coming young Native playwrights that are waiting for the opportunity to share their stories. Plus, we could not have asked for better partners on this project than the staff at The Newberry.”
“Chicago has long been a great theater town. I have been fortunate to have been a part of the theater community here for many years. Following the success of Madeline Sayet’s “Where We Belong” at the Goodman Theatre and Larissa FastHorse’s “The Thanksgiving Play” at Steppenwolf Theater, it is time we develop more quality Native theater to join that Chicago theater legacy. This project is a step towards that goal.”
Dancing Pony Productions’ presentation of “From the Old Wood Forest” is free and open to all. There will be a brief Q&A after the reading to collect audience reaction and feedback. Please go to https://www.newberry.org/calendar/from-the-old-wood-forest to reserve your spot.
