🌿 Del Rio’s Texas Sage is putting on quite a show! 💜

After the recent rains, one of the most beautiful native plants in Southwest Texas has burst into bloom. Texas Sage (also known as Cenizo) is covered in vibrant purple flowers, transforming our landscape into something truly special.

If you’ve driven around Del Rio lately, you’ve probably noticed these stunning blooms everywhere. They don’t last forever, so now is the perfect time to enjoy them!

🌅 Golden Hour Over Lake Amistad 🌅

Nature put on an incredible show this evening over Lake Amistad near Del Rio, Texas.

As the sun slipped below the horizon, high cirrus clouds caught the last rays of daylight, painting the sky with beautiful shades of gold, peach, pink, and lavender. Every sunset is unique, and tonight's was one to remember.

🌦️ Will July be drier than normal across South Texas?

The latest Climate Prediction Center outlook favors below-average rainfall across much of South Texas during July, including areas near Del Rio.

While isolated thunderstorms are still possible, rainfall may end up below what's typical for this time of year.

🌊 What about El Niño?

Meteorologists expect El Niño to strengthen later this year, but it has very little influence on Texas weather during the summer. Its effects become much more noticeable during the fall and winter months.

Del Rio is baking this afternoon with a temperature of 106°F and a heat index of 119°F. Dangerous heat can cause heat exhaustion and heat stroke in a short amount of time. Relief may be on the way as rain chances increase tonight and Friday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for portions of Val Verde and Edwards Counties through 2:00 AM CDT. Heavy thunderstorms may produce life-threatening flooding of roads, creeks, and low-lying areas. If you encounter floodwaters, Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
