I don’t believe in maxing out every day. At times I don’t even believe in maxing each week. But I do believe there are times to do so and when they come, you cannot be shy. You can’t be afraid or hesitate.

Firefighters who don’t run toward a problem are in the wrong line of work. Doctors who cringe at blood are in the wrong profession. So, Weightlifters who are scared of heavy are in the wrong sport.

When it’s light, use intuition. You’re allowed to think and feel. But when it’s heavy, use instinct. You just respond and perform. This is true in the gym or onstage.
