SCAM ALERT – KERN COUNTY 🚨
Beware of phone & text message scams!

📞 Scammers are posing as Sheriff’s Office staff, demanding payment for fake warrants, missed jury duty, or court issues. They often ask for gift cards, Bitcoin, or other electronic payments — and may threaten arrest.

📱 Some are now sending text messages claiming you owe toll road or DMV fees — these are fake. Do not click links or send payment.

⚠️ Red flags:

They spoof official numbers
Demand urgent payment
Won’t let you hang up

‼️ The Kern County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER ask for money or payment over the phone or via text.

💬 If the call seems suspicious, hang up.

A new initiative is circling around McFarland created by a local community led group with the goal of securing a permanent solution to clean water

WASCO: The migrant education program in Wasco has been saved from closure after federal funding was restored, securing its immediate future through the 2025-26 school year.

“We don’t know what’s going to happen for the 26, 27 school year, or for future years,” said Flor Martinez, a migrant resource teacher for the Wasco Union Elementary School District.

Martinez was among many who fought to keep the program alive after the Trump administration froze over $6 billion — including roughly $939 million in grants for California schools that supported English learners, after-school programs, and migrant education.

“It’s actually a very beneficial program that has helped a lot of American citizens,” Martinez said.

McFarland Lions Club is hosting a school supply giveaway from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 31, at the McFarland Learning Center. All McFarland students are eligible to receive free school supplies. Students must be present to receive their supplies.

The event will start at the corner of 6th Street and Robertson Avenue. Please pull forward and a volunteer will provide a school supply packet.

YK America has updated their map for the marketplace west development located in front of Target and west of Walmart

Like we mentioned before this will have another big anchor store with building size of around 136,000 square feet including a yard which we believe could potentially be a future LOWES not confirmed

Plans also include an additional 13 commercial pads

plans also show 144 townhouses could be built which include 7 units for each building

Additionally 118 homes and a future fire station on Albany Street

The old railroad station can be seen in the left hand corner above Wheeler's Furniture (now known as Family Shoe store). The old Sherman's Jeweler's can be seen at the southeast corner (lower lefthand corner) of 11th Avenue and Main Streets. Across the street from Sherman's (to the north), is the Sierra Theatre's visible sign. Morris Department Store sign can also be seen in the upper right hand corner of the photo. Delano Police Department Welcomes Six New Officers

Today, we proudly swore in Officers Jose Delgado, Orlando Guzman, Kaia Dumaguindin, Tyler Tyson-Sanders, Kevin Cadaoas, and Alan Perez Moran, who recently graduated from the 161st Basic Academy of the Tulare-Kings Counties Basic Peace Officer Academy.

These officers will now begin their rigorous Field Training Program, gaining valuable knowledge and skills, as they prepare to serve the Delano community with dedication and professionalism.

Please join us in welcoming them to the Delano PD family as they embark on their law enforcement careers!
