If anyone is thinking about having a pen or something done for a gift for the holidays, please let me know soon. I'm doing a supply order and it's much easier if I can order everything at once.

There's an infinite combination of pen types, hardware, woods, resins, colors and laser engraving. So no, I don't have any kind of order form or anything. If you want something, message me and we can work something out.

Want a pen for grandma with her name engraved and made from Olivewood from Bethlehem? no problem.

Want a crazy color combo resin pen that writes like a dream? No problem.

Stylus? Pencil? Wood from Fenway Park? Piece of the Space Shuttle that was in space? A piece of Independence Hall from when the Declaration of Indepenence was signed? No problem.

Letting me know on Dec 20th that you want a custom pen made? Maybe a problem.

People call me lots of things. Some times pen turner or penmaker is one of those things, I'm also called husband, dad, Scoutmaster, Cook, sound guy, and several other things not fit for public consumption. I'm only saying that because I've been busy on other things and will stay busy thru summer. I'm still making pens and taking orders but I won't be posting much.

Ok, it's been a bit since I've posted or done a giveaway.

A lot of penmakers are ramping up for the holidays. I don't really do shows or push sales a lot, but, one of my favorite things is surprising someone with a nice gift.

So here's what I'm going to do. Comment below (or dm me if a public message gives it a way) and tell me who you'd like to give a pen to for Christmas and what would make it special... favorite color, wood from a famous place, something cool laser engraved... most anything is up for grabs.

I will pick at least 2 winners by mid November and make the pens for you to give away.

Rules-
1. You must give the pen as a gift. No keeping for yourself or selling it.
2. If possible, record their reaction that I can share here with permission.

Sometimes I don't do pens :)

This is a cool bowl I just finished. Flame box elder. What you see is how God created it. I didn't add any color, resin or stain to this. I did fill some cracks with clear epoxy though.

One of my favorite things about making pens and such is when I get to use special or historic wood. This wood can be from a favorite place, a historic event or just something personal to someone.

I've made pens from the Oak tree at the end of the movie Shawshank Redemption and I've used wood from scene of Harry Potter movies to make pens and wands.

I also have access to wood and mixed resin pens from seats and bleachers of football stadiums or other famous buildings.

I've also used wood personal to folks. Wood from a family farm, wood from a broken gun stock from grandpa's favorite rifle, wood from the location of Eagle Scout projects.

Details like this make crafting pens even more fun. If you have some wood you want a pen made out of let me know. Or if you want a Shawshank pen, a pen from OSU stadium or from your favorite college or pro sport team, shoot me a message and I'll see what can be done.

Worked with Garrett to make a pen and bowl for his Wildlife Lab teacher at DACC. The bowl is spalted maple from a previous homework assignment.

Some may not be aware, but different wood types smell different when I turn them. My 2 favorites are Bethlehem Olivewood (smells like Italian dinner cooking) and bourbon barrel wood. Because well, it smells like bourbon. :)

I recently got to smell both on the same night when I made pens for a friend's podcast. JB's Bible and Bourbon podcast. They do episodes covering both the Bible and bourbon. Hey all! I will be doing my first art/craft show this Sunday. Come see me at Henmick Farm and Brewery. It's a beautiful place in Kilbourne, 5-10 minutes northeast of Delaware. I'll have out some pens and mostly be taking orders for more custom work. Noon to 6pm this Sunday.

FYI- This page is the home for my side business of making pens/pencils/bowls. I post pics of things I've done to give people ideas. This page isn't intended as a storefront where things will regularly be posted for sale. That takes far more time than I have, and frankly, I'm not looking to make 50 average pens a month. I'd rather make a few custom items that people love, or that I give away for gifts. I'm busy like many folks are, and I much prefer quality over quantity.
