This is an update from yesterday's story. We were in the courtroom, just like we were at the crash scene in May.
This killing has to stop here in our town and everywhere.

It is also time to change the road. How many more people have to die on that stretch of Route 85.

Meredith Savitt did a great job of painting a picture of what happened in that courtroom yesterday. It is a tragedy that did not have to ruin so many lives.

Update this morning: The Clapper Road Water Treatment Plant has resumed operations after receiving clearance from the Albany County Department of Health and the New York State Department of Health, town officials announced Friday evening.

The facility was temporarily shut down earlier in the day as a precaution after town employees found 12 dead geese near the plant’s intake area. The total increased to 30 birds when state Department of Environmental Conservation investigators removed the birds late Friday.

SELKIRK—The discovery of 12 dead geese near Bethlehem’s Clapper Road Water Treatment Plant has prompted town officials to shut down the facility out of concern for potential avian influenza, or bird flu.

Paul Penman, commissioner of public works, said staff found the migratory birds at approximately 2 p.m. Friday in the holding reservoir at the facility.

Town officials released a statement later that afternoon, informing residents that the plant had been taken offline.

Spotlight News spent time inside the New Salem Water plant and speaking with staff and officials from the Town of Bethlehem on January 2.

We have seen your comments and heard calls of concern from the community on the ongoing problems with the taste and smell of Bethlehem’s water. While the water has been deemed safe by all levels of government, we wanted to go beyond the official word and do our own research.

Our findings can be found in a story by Meredith Savitt we are posting tonight and will be in the print editions of The Spotlight on Wednesday.
We did not want to wait to publish the information due to a planned question and answer session before the Bethlehem Town Board meeting on Wednesday, January 8.

We moved the story outside our subscriber portal because we believe that this information is a public service and needs to get out to all members of the community regardless of subscriber status.

That being said, keep in mind that our community journalists are funded by our subscribers and advertisers. Please consider supporting your local and independent news source so we can continue to do this in the future.

Thank You
