Burlington County Animal Alliance's Adoptable Pet of the Week: Meet Beau!

Hi, I'm Beau, and I'm looking for my forever family.

I was picked up as a stray and spent months in a crowded shelter, scared and hiding in the back of my kennel. As an all-black dog, it was easy for me to go unnoticed. When my future looked uncertain, a volunteer spotted me and helped me get a second chance through BCAA and a wonderful rescue partner.

I'm about 1-2 years old, weigh a little over 55 pounds, and appear to be a Labrador Retriever mix. While I was shy at first, once I realized I was safe, my goofy, lovable Lab personality started to shine!

I'm currently participating in the New Leash on Life Prison Dog Program, where I'm learning important skills like walking nicely on a leash, sit, stay, and crate training. My trainers say I'm a smart boy who loves to learn and wants nothing more than to make people happy.

I get along well with other dogs and have shown respectful curiosity around cats. Most of all, I'm ready for a family to call my own.

Could you be the one to give me the happy ending I've been waiting for? ❤️

Some dismiss the endearing opossum as unattractive – or even a nuisance – but this quiet creature is actually one of our gentlest and most essential wild neighbors.

Students who participated in the Evesham Historical Society's Declaration of Independence Art Contest were cited by the school district at a board of ed meeting late last month.

The historical society is a nonprofit dedicated to preserving, understanding and sharing the history of Evesham. In 1988, it acquired the historic John Inskeep/Higginbotham property at 70 North Locust Road, which includes an 18th-century farmhouse, privy and surrounding grounds.

The site also includes an old butcher shop that was relocated from East Main Street. Two floors of the farmhouse have been restored and transformed into a history museum where exhibits include Native American artifacts; a Colonial kitchen; and a vintage schoolroom, while other rooms display 18th- and 19th-century furniture, toys, clothing and household items.

The New Jersey Conference of Mayors (NJCM) held its 61st annual spring conference late last month to install Evesham Mayor Jaclyn Veasy as its president.

Founded in 1963, the NJCM is the largest state-wide organization in the nation that exclusively represents the interests of mayors. Its founding mayors were interested in each others' activities and chose to find common ground on issues impacting residents.

The NJCM advocates for all 564 municipalities in New Jersey and is a bipartisan voice for both state and federal government. With events, education and legislative advocacy, it offers mayors the tools and connections they need to lead effectively.

The goal of the organization is to provide a unified approach and open line of communication to state and federal legislatures and administrations that reflect the will of residents.

Special to The SunMayor Veasy is now president of the New Jersey Conference of Mayors, a bipartisan and state-wide organization that advocates for local mayors and their governments.

Burlington County is distributing free, $40 farmers market vouchers to eligible senior citizens in the Farmer's Market Nutrition Program.

The county's Department of Human Services Office on Aging is now accepting applications from seniors. Qualifyers will immediately receive a QR code voucher redeemable for market products at any of 20 participating county farms and farmer's markets.

Last year, 960 county seniors got vouchers.

“We’ve heard from many senior citizens on fixed incomes who are struggling because of rising food prices and other expenses that make it difficult for them to obtain quality, nutritious foods,” said County Commissioner Randy Brolo, liaison to the Department of Human Services.

“The senior (voucher) program provides eligible seniors with a path to obtaining fresh, nutritious produce locally sourced from Burlington County farms.

Burlington County Animal Alliance's Adoptable Pet of the Week: Meet Sassy!

Sassy is a beautiful 1 to 2-year-old girl, weighing about 42 pounds, who is ready to find the loving, forever home she deserves. Despite a difficult start in life, Sassy has a gentle, loving heart and brings joy everywhere she goes. Ironically, her name doesn’t fit her at all! There isn’t anything “sassy” about this sweet girl. Sassy is incredibly gentle, affectionate, and kind-hearted. She’s the type of dog who would rather give you kisses, curl up in your lap, and soak up cuddles than cause any trouble.

While she can be a little nervous when meeting new people, Sassy warms up quickly and soon reveals her loving personality. Once she trusts you, she’s happiest being close to her people and sharing all the affection she has to give. Sassy is good with other dogs. She’s playful with dogs who enjoy playing but is respectful of dogs who prefer their space. Sassy gets along with both small and large dogs. She is also fantastic with cats and great with children, making her a wonderful addition to many different types of families. Sassy rides nicely in the car and enjoys being included in family adventures. Sassy is crate trained and continues to work on her leash skills - she would do best with a fenced yard until she is better with walking. New environments can still make her a bit unsure, but she is making progress every day with patience, encouragement, and consistency. Because she can jump shorter fences, she will need a securely fenced yard with a 6-foot fence to keep her safe while she plays.

One of her most endearing traits is the way she wiggles with excitement when you talk to her. Her happy grin, gentle nature, and loving spirit are guaranteed to make you smile. If you’re looking for a sweet, gentle companion who is good with other animals, adores her people, and is ready to become a cherished member of the family, Sassy may be the perfect match for you.
