Burlington County Animal Alliance's Adoptable Pet of the Week: Meet Lionel!

Lionel is a handsome 1-year-old, 50-pound mixed-breed boy who’s ready to find his forever family! This beautiful pup has long legs, a slender build, and striking good looks—but his foster family will tell you that pictures simply don’t do him justice.

When Lionel first came into foster care, he was a shy and nervous young dog, but he has made incredible progress and continues to gain confidence every day. With patience, encouragement, and a loving environment, he’s truly beginning to come out of his shell. He’s doing great with leash walking and is learning that the world isn’t such a scary place after all.

Lionel is potty trained, has a gentle and loving heart, and gets along wonderfully with other dogs, who help boost his confidence. He’s also fantastic with cats and doesn’t bother them at all, making him an excellent addition to a multi-pet home. Lionel is good with kids as well and enjoys being part of a family. He absolutely loves to play and cuddle with other dogs.

Because he’s still building confidence, Lionel would thrive with an adopter who understands that some dogs need a little extra time and reassurance to blossom. A securely fenced yard would be ideal for him as he continues to grow and gain confidence.

If you’re looking for a sweet, loyal companion and are willing to give this deserving boy the love and guidance he needs, Lionel may be the perfect match for you! Apply at bcaaofnj.org.

🐾💕 Burlington County Animal Alliance's Adoptable Pets of the Week: Meet Nanna & Her Adorable Pups 💕🐾

Now Available for Adoption!

These precious siblings — Allie, Grace, Mallory, Bailey, Mason, and Harley — are ready to start the next chapter of their lives and find loving forever homes!

This sweet family had a rough beginning. Nanna and her nursing litter of eight puppies were dropped off at a high-kill shelter shortly after the babies were born. Thankfully, loving foster homes stepped in to give this little family the safe, nurturing environment they deserved so they could grow strong, healthy, and happy.

Now thriving in foster care, these puppies are friendly, social, and full of playful puppy energy. They love to romp around, explore, and cuddle after playtime, and they’re sure to make wonderful family companions. Their mom, Nanna, is a beautiful tri-colored Beagle mix weighing about 40 lbs, and while dad is unknown, we anticipate the puppies will grow to be medium-sized or larger adults (size not guaranteed).

The puppies will be approximately 8 weeks old and available to go home on May 30th. Because of their young age, they will need families who can provide plenty of time, attention, socialization, and care — they should not be crated for long periods of time.

🐶 And don’t forget Mom — Nanna is available too! 🐶

At approximately 1½ years old and 40 lbs, Nanna is as sweet as they come. This loving girl has been an amazing mama and is now ready for a forever home of her own. She gets along wonderfully with her foster’s three dogs, adores the foster’s grandchildren, enjoys walks, and walks nicely on leash. She is still working on housebreaking and improving every day. Nanna has also done well when left alone in the home and has not been destructive.

After dedicating herself to raising her babies, Nanna is ready to be pampered and loved the way she deserves. Her puppies are now weaned, and she will be spayed soon and can finally focus on being someone’s cherished companion.

💙 Interested in adopting one of these sweet pups or Nanna? Please submit an online adoption application today! These lovable dogs are sure to steal hearts quickly.

May is National Water Safety Month, a time to remind families that drowning is preventable, yet it remains one of the leading causes of death for young children and people under 30.

Drowning rarely looks the way it does in the movies. Most people expect splashing or yelling, but drowning is often silent and can happen in less than a minute, even in just a few inches of water.

Bystanders are often the first line of defense. Research shows drowning victims are most often rescued by people nearby, not trained professionals, simply because they are closest to the incident. More than 60% of bystander rescues happen before help arrives.

“Everyone near water plays a role in keeping people safe,” said Wendy Vara, of the American Red Cross New Jersey Region. “Whether it’s a child, a friend or a stranger, you may be the only person in a position to recognize distress and respond.”

The American Red Cross urges families to stay actively engaged around water. Don’t just swim - watch.

In 2025, the State unveiled the Liberty State Park Master Plan, which directs further improvements to the park over the next 10 years and beyond. Several habitat areas previously fenced off due to contamination are undergoing restoration to freshwater wetlands, forest, and recreational areas.

New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Liberty State Park will mark its 50th anniversary next month as a bountiful resource in the state.

Burlington County Animal Alliance's Adoptable Pet of the Week: Bandit 💙🐾 This adorable little guy is just 1.5 years old and weighs about 20 pounds, with the cutest ears you’ve ever seen! Bandit is likely a rat terrier mix and the perfect blend of curious explorer, playful pup, and loving cuddlebug.

Bandit absolutely lives for snuggles—he’s a true “in-your-face” kind of dog who loves to be touching you or curled up in your lap whenever possible. He’ll happily give endless kisses and soak up all the affection you can offer. Once he’s comfortable, his fun personality really shines! He gets the zoomies, loves to play, and brings such a joyful, goofy energy to the home.

He has a lot of playful energy and thrives around other dogs who want to interact and play with him. Because of this, Bandit would do best in a home with another playful dog to match his energy and help him feel confident. He can sometimes be a little mouthy during play, so continued guidance will help him channel that excitement.

Bandit must have a fenced-in yard, as he enjoys being outside and it gives him the space he needs to safely explore while continuing to build confidence. He gets panicked on leash. His foster is working with him and he is learning to follow the other dogs on walks, but he is truly happier in a fenced area.

He’s currently in a foster home with other dogs and does great—he really blossoms when he has canine companions to engage with. He’s also good with cats (though he can be a little playful with them) and is fully housebroken. He is crate trained as well.

Bandit can be a little nervous at first, especially with new people, quick movements, or loud noises. Once he warms up, he is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and devoted. He is truly a “shadow dog” who loves following his person around—he just wants to be close to you. Apply to meet him at bcaaofnj.org 🐾💙
