Twenty-six years ago, September 11 meant back-to-school spirits; hazy, end-of-summer weather; the beginning of a season with rowdy fans, dressed in green, piling into Veterans Stadium to cheer on their favorite football team. When American Airlines Flight 11 hit the North Tower at 8:46 a.m. in 2001, though, everything changed. The crashes that subsequently hit the South Tower at 9:03, the Pentagon at 9:37, and an empty field in Shanksville, PA, alerted the country that this was an attack, unlike anything we had seen on U.S. soil since Pearl Harbor.

Burlington County Animal Alliance's Adoptable Pet of the Week: Meet Onyx 🖤🐾

At about 1 year old and 45 pounds, Onyx is a gorgeous, sweet boy searching for the patient and loving forever home he deserves.

Onyx can be nervous around strangers, loud noises and unfamiliar situations, but give him time to feel safe and his affectionate personality shines. He loves curling up on the couch, sleeping beside his person and soaking up all the love from someone he trusts. ❤️

He also loves cats, is about 90% potty trained and would thrive in a quiet, child-free home with a fenced yard. Another friendly dog could also help show him that the world isn’t such a scary place.
Onyx has already been let down twice. This time, he needs someone who will stay.

Could you be his forever person? 🏡

On any summer morning along New Jersey’s coast, you’ll find people casting lines from the surf, dropping bait from small boats, or simply standing at the water’s edge, waiting. Fishing here is a tradition, a livelihood, and can be a way for people to learn about and come to care for the environment.

Burlington County Clerk Joanne Schwartz provided updates on voting by mail for the upcoming General Election following the recent U.S. Supreme Court action concerning federal requirements for mail-in ballots.

“Burlington County looks forward to continuing to administer vote-by-mail in accordance with current New Jersey State law and guidance from state election officials, as we have done successfully for over a decade,” said Burlington County Clerk Joanne Schwartz. “While the outcome of current litigation with the federal government regarding this matter remains uncertain, Burlington County election officials will closely monitor any developments and will make necessary adjustments consistent with applicable law and official guidance.
