I (like everyone this time of year ๐) am searching for US crew for our Northeast summer season...
For those of you who donโt know me.. please allow me to introduce myself,
My name is Michelle Niles and I own a small (very small) crew agency called Salt Placement that I founded 6 years ago..
But, before that I was a chief stew on board yachts full time traveling the world & then later decided I wanted more โrootsโ and decided to make a career out of freelancing on boats.. which ultimately led to the creation and birth of Salt Placement.
I guess my niche would be helping boats in Sag Harbor, NY and the surrounding Northeastern territory due to the fact Sag Harbor is where I was born and raised.. my father still farms our family land in the hamptons that we have had for well over 200 years... plus I was a full time stewardess on a vessel that went to Sag Harbor seasonally.
That being said, I am very familiar and very helpful with the area. Many vessels find me to be an asset & who they call when they need something in the northeast - especially Sag Harbor - I do concierge, provide servers & temp staff for parties as well as full time placement anywhere in the world. On the rare occasion I can help w dayworkers given there is enough notice to plan and schedule people.
Currently, our boats are getting ready to start their journeys north.
The Northern experience is a bit different.. Most northern itinerary owners work in Manhattan through the week and travel to the hamptons on the weekends. Some owners with smaller boats only use the boat to day trip to shelter island and back.. meaning NO GUESTS STAY ON BOARD... ๐ the routine is mostly consistent boat work gets done through the week, then busy weekends w owners and Sunday they leave! Itโs nice to have a consistent work schedule/routine and the dock is small - the port is small - the town is small! It seems boring at first bc itโs not the fast pace you are used to but, by the end of the season you will surely fall in love with this little harbor town and all of the magic of its rich history and cozy intimidate relationships you will create. Itโs not for everyone.. if you want to go to Europe and watch as the ports go by your port hole and hope for one day NOT on anchor and deal with the mistrals then Sag Harbor Is prob not for you.. but if you are looking for a cozy little whaling town which you can take in some beautiful sunsets and meet some cool people than email me your cv! Jobs are starting to come in now and this is your chance:..
Unfortunately, most boats are US flag up this way.. not ideal for limited American crew but, good for the US crew looking... however DONT let that discourage you as there are still plenty of positions for โforeignโ crew as well!!
My email is [email protected] if anyone would like to apply early for positions coming in...
Please understand I am owner/operator so I will not have the time to respond to each one of you.. please donโt take this personally and just know I am doing my best to help you and everyone else. Please donโt private message me - I prefer email so that all conversations are consistently in one place. Whatโs app is not my favorite either but I can use it if you give me a heads up first.
Many blessings and thanks for taking the time to read
