Volusia County Advances Flood-Mitigation Projects 🌧️
The Volusia County Council has approved five new flood-mitigation initiatives to help reduce neighborhood flooding and strengthen community resilience across the county.

Federally funded through the Transform386 program and developed in partnership with local municipalities, the projects focus on engineering design and detailed flood studies to improve stormwater management.

Here’s what’s planned ⤵️
- South Daytona – Stevens Canal (just north of Beville Road south to Reed Canal): Design work for canal and drainage improvements, including sheet-pile wall installations, yard drains with flap valves, upgraded backflow preventers, and new wall structures at key road crossings.
- DeLand – DeLand Ridge Watershed: Study to model how runoff moves across this elevated sandy ridge and into low-lying basins, and will develop pre-engineered conceptual alternatives to reduce roadway and yard flooding.
- Deltona – Providence Basin (neighborhoods along and south of Providence Boulevard near Braddock Road): Analysis of drainage across residential streets and wetlands, and propose alternatives to enhance flow and alleviate flooding in low-lying areas.
- Deltona – McGarity Basin: The study will create alternatives, such as stormwater pumping, grading improvements, or enhanced storage features, to reduce flooding and improve stormwater flow toward Lake Monroe.
- Deltona – Gleason Basin: Engineers will identify alternatives to enhance stormwater conveyance, reduce localized flooding, and improve downstream water quality.

These projects mark another step forward in Volusia County’s ongoing efforts to strengthen drainage systems and protect neighborhoods.
