How i like to use music in counseling: 🕊️ 1. Set the Tone with Worship MusicBefore or at the start of a session: • Play soft instrumental or worship music in the background as clients arrive or during prayer. • This can calm anxiety, quiet distractions, and create a Christ-centered atmosphere.Examples: • Instrumental versions of hymns • Soaking worship (e.g., Bethel, Upper Room) • Psalms put to music (e.g., Shane & Shane’s “Psalms” album)🎵 2. Use Lyrics as Counseling ToolsHow: • Choose a Christ-centered song that aligns with a client’s current struggle. • Discuss specific lyrics like you would a passage of Scripture: • “What does this lyric say about God?” • “How does this reflect your situation?”Example: • Struggling with fear? Use “You Make Me Brave” by Amanda Cook. • Feeling unseen? Use “Jireh” by Maverick City Music to talk about God’s provision.📖 3. Connect Music to ScriptureHelp clients see how truth in music flows from the Word of God.Example Exercise: • Play a song (or read the lyrics). • Ask the client to find Scripture that supports the main message. • Discuss how the Word reinforces what the song proclaims.🙌 4. Encourage Music for Personal DevotionMusic can be homework!Assignments: • Create a personalized worship playlist. • Journal while listening to a specific song. • Sing or meditate on a hymn during morning devotion.❤️ 5. Use Music to Minister to the HeartSometimes when a client can’t find the words to pray or express pain, music speaks for them.Examples: • Songs of lament (e.g., “Though You Slay Me” by Shane & Shane) • Songs of hope (e.g., “Firm Foundation” by Cody Carnes)Let music become part of their emotional and spiritual vocabulary.🎧 Sample Homework Assignment:Listen to “Goodness of God” every morning for 7 days. • Journal 3 things God has been faithful in. • Write out Psalm 23 as a personal prayer.Final Tip:Guard Discernment. Not all “Christian” music is biblically sound. Choose songs rooted in Scripture and aligned with sound doctrine.

3 Signs You’re Carrying Unresolved Hurt

1. You overreact to small things.
Minor situations trigger major emotions because they’re hitting an old, unhealed wound.
➡️ “Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger.” – Ephesians 4:26

2. You avoid certain people or topics.
Unresolved hurt often causes you to shut down or walk away from anything that reminds you of the pain.
➡️ “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” – Psalm 147:3

3. You struggle to trust others, even those who haven’t hurt you.
Past wounds can make your heart guarded, blocking new connections out of fear.
➡️ “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” – Proverbs 4:23

🕊️ Healing begins when we bring our pain to Jesus.

Therapy vs. Christian Counseling 🤍
What’s the difference?

While both offer support for emotional and mental health, the foundation they’re built on is different:

🧠 Therapy:
Focuses on mental health using clinical tools like CBT, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based practices. It typically avoids spiritual direction unless requested.

🙏 Christian Counseling:
Uses biblical truth as the foundation for healing. Scripture, prayer, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit are central, alongside practical tools for emotional health.

💬 One works from the mind outward.
📖 The other starts with the heart and the Word of God.

Both have value. But if you’re seeking Christ-centered healing, Christian counseling aligns your journey with your faith.

Welcome to Talk it out Tuesday:

Opening up about mental health can be hard. Scripture can gently open the door to conversation and offer comfort. Here are a few simple ways to start:

Starting with Care
•Notice changes and express concern, like in Psalm 34:18.

•Share how scripture helps you cope (e.g., Philippians 4:6-7) and invite them to share.

When Someone Feels Sad
•Acknowledge their feelings and point to examples like David in Psalm 42:11.

•Remind them it’s okay to struggle—many in the Bible did.

When They Feel Anxious
•Offer calming verses like Isaiah 41:10 and ask what’s on their heart.

•Reference Proverbs 12:25 about anxiety and simply listen.

Offering Hope and Support
•Encourage hope with Jeremiah 29:11 and talk about small next steps.

•Remind them they’re not alone (Galatians 6:2) and ask how you can support them.

Scripture can be powerful, but it’s not always the right fit for every moment. Listen with compassion, and when needed, encourage professional help. Faith and counseling can work beautifully together

What is Biblical Counseling?

Biblical counseling is a form of therapy that uses the Bible as its primary source of guidance for addressing personal struggles and promoting spiritual growth. It emphasizes the sufficiency of Scripture for understanding and resolving life’s challenges, focusing on the individual’s relationship with God and their response to His Word.

As your counselor I strive to tailor each session specifically to your needs. I make sure to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to guide me with wisdom and understanding and have a heart to hear the person clearly. I love to make people feel seen and heard and give them a biblical and practical view on how to deal with the issues of life.

I guess you could say, biblical counseling is a form of discipleship that seeks to guide individuals toward a deeper relationship with God through the lens of His Word, leading to lasting change and transformation in their lives.

We found this arrow in a random closet while moving into our new house last month. I thought nothing of it as we were hustling and bustling to get our house together. As I was cleaning this morning I saw the arrow leaning again the door frame. It was almost like God brought it all back to my memory. He allowed me to put 2 and 2 together.

Before we left FL we had a party to send us off. Amaris, our choir director, gave us a word about us being arrows being shot into the new land we were going into. Little did I know how quickly that word would become relevant to me. The arrows have been launched and the enemy is trying his best to get me to go back to my old ways and pick up offense. So seeing this arrow in our home was no coincidence. It was a sweet reminder from the Lord!

As you can see this arrow doesn’t have its sharp tip. Therefore it can’t harm anyone or anything. The word says the weapons may form but they won’t prosper! I declare that over me and my family in Jesus name. Hell is angry bc we are here! We will keep our arrows of righteousness, humility and love soaring through this area bc that’s what we’ve been called to do. I also think of the story in the Bible in 2nd Kings 13:16-19 where Elijah told the king of Israel to take the arrows and hit the ground. The king only hit the ground 3 times. So he would only get 3 victories over his enemies.

But I will never stop hitting my arrows on the ground for I shall have victory over the enemy forever. The song rings in my head “we won’t stop until we see it” is my war cry and the enemy will hear my arrows beating the ground loud and clear!

This green couch has heard so many conversations, seen many tears, gave reprieve on a hard day and provided comfort and quiet. Little did I know that about 3 yrs ago God would have me create this space for everything I listed above. To create a safe space for anyone who wanted to come over and may needed a listening ear. In 2024 I had no clue God would be using it for my counseling services!

When you book a session with Find Me at His Feet Counseling please know that this space has been prepared just for you. There are scriptures on the wall, specific essential oils being discussed, worship music being played and most of all I have prayed over this space before each client arrives. Not to mention plenty of tissues, a little notebook and pen for clients to take notes and some water. I love to make sure people feel as comfy as they can be.

In our sessions we go can go as deep with your healing as you want. Everything is 100% confidential. I like to check on each client when our session is over to make sure they are using the tools I gave them. So you will get a text or two over the weeks after your appt. I want you to feel God’s love the moment you walk into this space. I want the Holy Spirit to dwell here so that He can aid me in the healing process as I walk with you.

If any of this sounds like you’d want to be a part of then I’d love for you to book a session with me. Each session is $25. You can go to my website and book the service you’d like to have. I look forward to ministering to many more people in this space in 2025.
