Crawford County Pheasants Forever is recognizing its 2026 scholarship winners after awarding more than $5,000 in scholarships this year. The organization says the scholarships were made possible through support of its pallet of Busch Light raffle. This year’s listed recipients include Ryan Slechta, Roman Bygness, Charlotte Schrum, Brigid Bonner, Tyson Von Glan, Karson Bromert, Ben Ramsey, Levi Reineke, Ryelyn Summerfield, Kia Coenen, and Ava Pauley and Camdyn Nemitz.

Crawford County Pheasants Forever thanked everyone who participated and helped make the scholarships possible.

Logan-Magnolia with a huge road win over IKM-Manning in WIC play as the bats come alive for a 17-4 victory ⚾️⚾️

The Panthers were led by Mason Van Iten who went 3-4 with three RBIs and a triple, Cale Cunard homers with 2 RBIs, Macklin Loftus with a three RBI triple for his lone hit and an immaculate inning to close out the game.

The Wolves were led by Logan Halbur who went 2-2 and congralutions to Jace Starman who becomes the Wolves all time career home run leader with a 2-run shot!

Logan-Magnolia improves to 9-2 while IKM-Mannibg falls to 3-8. Both teams are in action on Tuesday with matchups against Missouri Valley & Riverside respectively.

MONARCHS HAVE A BIG NIGHT IN CRESTON! 🥎⚾

The Denison-Schleswig Monarch softball team picked up a huge road sweep over Creston on Monday night, improving to 7-5 on the season.

🥎 Game 1: Monarchs 22, Creston 7

After falling behind 5-0 in the first inning and trailing 7-3 entering the 7th, the Monarchs erupted for an incredible 19-run seventh inning to complete a stunning comeback victory.

Senior Emily Gehlsen led the offensive attack with a 4-hit night, including a double and her 3rd home run of the season. Denison-Schleswig finished with 18 hits as a team.

🥎 Game 2: Monarchs 5, Creston 4 (8 innings)

The Monarchs needed extra innings to complete the sweep, and freshman Isabel Blume delivered the biggest hit of the night. Blume ripped an RBI single in the 8th inning that proved to be the game-winning run as Denison-Schleswig secured the sweep.

The Monarchs split their road doubleheader with Creston and now sit at 11-3 on the season.

Cole Kastner blasted his 4th home run of the season to help power the Monarchs to the game two victory.

SAC COUNTY, Iowa . Authorities say several train cars derailed Monday, June 8, in Sac County.

The Sac County Sheriff’s Office reported that four to five cars left the tracks east of Odebolt, along Ira Avenue between 340th and 350th Streets.

Officials say the cause of the derailment remains under investigation. At this time, the cars are not leaking, and there is no reported concern involving hazardous materials.

First Public Appearance for Sand-Muhlbauer Ticket Set for Manning this Wednesday evening:

Rob Sand and Dave Muhlbauer will make their first public appearance together as a ticket this Wednesday night, June 10, during a moderated event at Level B in Manning.

Sand, the Democratic nominee for Iowa Governor, announced Monday that Muhlbauer, a Crawford County Supervisor, fifth-generation farmer, cattleman, and Manilla-area native, will join his campaign as the candidate for lieutenant governor. The event will give area residents one of the first opportunities to hear directly from Sand and Muhlbauer following the announcement, with the discussion scheduled from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Level B, located at 805 6th Street in Manning.

HEAT ADVISORY ISSUED FOR TUESDAY

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday for much of central and western Iowa, including Crawford, Carroll, Sac, Audubon, Calhoun, Webster, Greene, Boone, Dallas and Polk counties.

Heat index values could climb as high as 105 degrees during the afternoon and evening.

Hot temperatures combined with high humidity may increase the risk for heat-related illness. Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, spend time in air conditioning when possible, avoid prolonged time in the sun, and check on relatives, neighbors, children, older adults, and pets.

Just in: Rob Sand has selected his running mate in the race for Iowa governor.

On Monday, the Democratic gubernatorial candidate announced Crawford County Supervisor Dave Muhlbauer will join his ticket as the campaign’s choice for lieutenant governor.

From the Sand Press Release Muhlbauer said “When there’s work on the farm to be done or your neighbor needs help baling hay, you don’t ask who they voted for. You put on your boots and lend a hand. Rob understands that, and that’s why I’m proud to be part of Team Sand. This campaign is about public service, not politics : something I learned from my dad and grandpa when they served our community. I’m honored to be Rob’s partner in this race, and I can’t wait to meet voters across Iowa to talk about making our state not redder or bluer, but better and truer.”
